"De-Loading" During Back End Of Bulk Cycle....

Got about 1 more month of bulking. On TRT 100mg Cyp E5D, nothing else. Have some nagging injuries I wanted to allow to heal so I was thinking of lightening the weight to 40-50% 1MR and keeping calories up/at a surplus. My shoulder especially is begging for some time to recover. My training partner told me to work through it and lighten up when I begin cutting around May 1st. Also said I probably got the idea from Muscle and Fitness or some other jabroni magazine (lol).

Wanted to know other peoples takes regarding gaining mass while reducing weight load. I can hack it for another month if needed but if I can still gain a few more pounds before I cut while reducing the load why not.

Thanks,

Do less sets if anything, you're not going to expect to gain mass lifting light weights are you? If you can press it 15 times you're still having pressure on your joints.. For longer actually. Get big by lifting like you usually do, take an extra day off or cut heavy days from ie: 40sets down to 30sets. Good luck to you!

Sup man. 40 sets???? Fuck , that's a lot of sets. Back day is the only day i'll venture towards 30. And I agreee, you need to life heavy-ish to really gain mass. There are pro's and other qualified individuals who believe that you can use light weights to gain mass, using methods like negatives and higher reps(which I dont agree with because higher reps uses different fibers). I think TUT is whats most important as well as mind muscle connection, regardless of weight or phase.

I just gotta heal this fucking shoulder, pissing me off.

Yah shoulders are the worst to be hurt. You can always do everything that doesn't bug it.. For instance if you're doing chest and dips irritate it try doing downward cable flies? When all else fails get some deca ;)

Haha, well I'm one step away from gear and I'm trying to hold out as long as possible. I've heard mixed opinions on the healing properties of deca in repairing joints and tendons.

I've pretty much found the exercises that dont bother my shoulder but with it still takes a toll and theres no way to entirely eliminate the shoulders use.

Yea most of us have been there, I always just work through it. Sometimes a few weeks, sometimes a few months till your golden. As for deca.. Love it for size, strength and I gotta say any joint pains I got go away on it. I stand behind it 100% lol one of my favorites

Cool man. This pains nagging like a mofo. I also never ran gear and I was advised to start with Test E and see how that affects me and then add in another AAS like deca or tren. Im really not wanting to start the gear yet.

Gotta see if I heal during the cutting phase when the weight load drops off.

Ahh I see, yea first timer's can get a lot out of test only. And you're doin the right thing.. Focus on one thing at a time

I don't ever max anymore, but I do take a deload week after fighting with friends about it for a very long time. Your central nervous system needs a break every so often, plain and simple. I find that I start having a harder time getting out of bed, I have trouble finishing sets towards the end of a session at the gym or flat-out do not look forward to heading off to the gym. That tells me my body needs a break; so I simply take a week every couple months and work with about 50% of my normal weights and do the same reps/sets.

Once I head back to the gym after the deload week, I feel fresh and renewed. I've often set new PR's when I come back and cannot stress to you enough how important it is to listen to your body. If your shoulders ache after chest day, it's not only time to reevaluate your form, but it very well may be time to take a break. Preventing injury by taking it easy for a week or two is MUCH better than "working through the pain" only to find yourself with a tear or sprain which takes MONTHS to heal.

I also recommend you incorporate stretches into your routines as they help keep those connective tissues nice and limber. I've seen pretty much everything from a bicep tendon being shot clean off the arm during a deadlift to a pec tear at a meet for powerlifting. Waiting until after you see these injuries to start taking care of your body just doesn't make sense to me, and is often far more counterproductive than treating your body with respect.

My .02c :)

thanks very much for you monetary contributions. The shoulder issue is from a tweak/strain about 3 months of of my rear delt/infrasprinatus area. I've tried prolotherapy a bunch of times and I actually think it further damaged the area. I also didn't exactly take it that easy after the injections but I was told its ok to train, never the less. Im currently going to a P.T./Chiro who does Graston, ART, and other tendonosis and scar tissue break up methods. It has helped with mobility and pain but its just keeps nagging. I know I need to take some rest, but I really wanna finish this bulk strong. I also dont wanna lose all the mass and gains I've made in recent months during my bulk. I take a week off every 2 months actually. Took 3 days off a week and a half ago and it helped but I need more because as soon as I trained the pain came back.

Yes, after a chest workout and the next day my shoulder is bumpin(inflamed). Back day isnt as bad because im able to manipulate my back muscles to take most of the load when Im lifting. It actually hurts a good amount on leg day for some stupid reason. I have other nagging injuries as well but they are improving, this ones just being a stubborn bitch. I really dont wanna turn to gear but im 31 and this is not fucking cool. I look like im in my 20s but if feel like dick.

thank you i wil take your advice into consideration

I actually also may take an extra day off and only train 4x/week. Put back/bis and chest/tris together. See if that extra recovery day helps. And then lighten the load but keep calories at a surplus, maybe i can squeeze out a couple more pounds before May 1st cut.
