Deadlift/squat same day.

SCHOOMONEY

Bible salesman.
I decided to work hams and quads on the same day. Haven't done this workout in a couple years. My plan is heavy quad light ham one week, heavy ham light quad the next. I am thinking of doing 2-3 exercises for each muscle group, 3-4 sets each. Heavy days do 5 reps and light days do 10 reps. What do you guys think?

speaking for myself i love doing heavy squats and heavy deads same day. throw in heavy bench and you've got the reg park program. 5 sets of 5 of each. great mass builder and gives you a good reason to binge at the all-you-can-eat buffet post workout. before the split routine this is how it was done back in the day. look up some info on reg park if you ever find the time, all natural and a freak. staggering numbers.

the only thing about that program now is that many discoveries have been made in biomechanics since the late 50's and new info tells us that the frequency that parks program calls for (3x/week) is simply overtraining and not nearly sufficient recovery time for skeletomuscular hypertrophy. so i modify and work it once every 7-10 days.

other than that i cant think of any reason why you wouldnt want to work quads/hams in same workout unless you're on some crazy arnold 3-a-day program. if you're doing quads the bloods already there.. hit those hammies.

all that being said.. tman is proportianally bigger than me and it couldnt hurt to ask him more about his WO..

cheers and best of luck in you workouts!

I do it sometimes but it puts a lot of stress on your back, so I dont do both heavy

I always go heavy unless cutting. I always give my body adequate recovery time to enable consistent heavy lifting. So I don’t do dead lifts and squats on the same day because there is no way I could give both what I consider the adequate intensity.

To put it simply you cant do both of them heavy, if you use 100% intensity that is. Your lover back wont allow it.

How about doing squats heavy and speed deads westside style after, or vice versa.

What i do is train in a kind westside/dogcrap way that i do less sets, per workout but i work the muscles twice in every 8days, and i go 100% heavy all out and this way i get 2 growth phases per 8 days instead of one, the recovery is easier which means more strentgh and more size.

or do squats on leg day and deadlifts on back day

This is a very good way, just make sure theres ample time for recovery between the exercises or you prob get injured or overtrain.

What i like to do is if my lower back is not up to bar is lift rack deads for back exercise, because the heavy squats work on the lower part anyways.

Great way to boost both lifts also is heavy good mornings, i like to use them after heavy squats.

Too much heavy work in one day for me, as a lower back issue as well as a simple workload issue. I'm sure some can do it, but with bigger weights you also get bigger stresses to the body.

okay.. you guys are meeting up with me at my gym and we're all gonna huff smelling salts and kill the reg park program.. squats.deads/bench.. then im takin everyone out for chinese buffet post workout, on me!

you'll thank me in 2 months! ha j/k

naw, great advice from everyone, do what feels right. dont hurt yourself!

best of luck!

Doesn't the rippetoe programm (starting strength) íncorporate squat, bench and deads on the same day?

Basically you squat 3x per week en on one of these days you do deads as well. 3x5 and 1x5 or something to that amout of sets/reps.

a
sqaut 3x5
bench 3x5
dead 1x5

b
squat 3x5
standing military press 3x5
power cleans / Pendlay Rows 3x5

Alternating between the two on non consequtive days

You could adjust the prog. by doing some assist exercises

Seems like a very do-able programm.
