DEATH to "The Club Boys"!
How many of you do them? Are they really beneficial?

All I ever do is flat and incline movements, but I was wondering how important decline movements are.

I didn't know if they were overrated or underrated.

Thoughts?

I never did them before, and I added them into my routine a few months back. I haven't noticed any difference. Maybe I'm wrong, but I think most chest development comes from flat and incline. The decline just doesn't provide the range of motion.

inclines and declines with dumbbells really work the chest more then benching IMO, i ALWAYS feel it more with dumbbells bc u get that added motion and such.

inclines + flat + declines = huge chest

... and thats better for your *transmission*

I throw in decline once in a while as well but I mostly stick to incline and flat work.

Alot of people dont like/do declines for various reasons, but i just think alot of people dont give them enuf time or chance for them to be beneficial. Especially when the majority of people now say incline and flat are the only way to go. IMO you have to give them a chance just like flat and incline to see results, since its not that different of an exercise anyway.

Decline Dumbell Presses have done a lot for my chest as have Incline Dumbell Presses and Incline Cable Presses. I have always been able to move slightly more weight from a decline position versus flat as well get a better pump in my lower chest, so I usually only do flats as an occasional change of pace. And with dumbells, good range of motion is not an issue from the decline position. But I believe heavy incline work is even more important for an aesthetic well-developed chest.

IMO decline pressess work the bottom of the pec better than any other exercise. I have done them for about 3-4 years now and i can tell a good difference in my lower chest now than before.

Not a huge fan of the decline press exercises...I always feel that I'm putting myself at risk for injury while on the decline bench.
I stick to the flat bench and incline.

Check your motion

Alot of people don't feel declines because of the way they bring up the weight but i do prefer dumbell declines because of the range of motion. i think declines help for the bottom of the chest. so just make sure your technique is correct and give decline dumbells a chance.

I throw in the decline bench once in a while, that as well as the decline close grip tricep press.

That is a GREAT exercise for blowing out the tris and squeezing inner chest. I like declines, all kinds. I like pushing heavy weight with the BB, a better stretch with DB, and even the Smith because w/o worrying about the balance, you can really concentrate on driving from the lower chest and contracting at the top. I see many people performing them incorrectly, IMO. Keeping the elbows less than a 90 degree angle from the shouder, moving them closer to the body and a more narrow grip helps to emphasize the proper chest areas. That positioning is greatly exaggerated in the close tri press StoneCold mentions. Also, bringing the lats into the movement also helps to focus the squeeze.
