dextrose or maltodext. for postworkout carb source?

I'll second (or third or whatever) the half and half of both. The maltodextrin will give you a nice big insulin response, and the dextrose will be shuttled into the muscles nicely.
What? maltodextrin is just a bunch of glucose molecules bound together, your body just needs to break it down into glucose before it is utilized. Since you can pretty much break down malto about as fast as you can use the glucose from it, its really not beneficial to use either or unless you use slin.

Yes, but a high insulin response can have benefits beyond glycogen storage. A high insulin response will reduce cortisol levels.

I disagree, I use dextrose/whey PW with R-ALA and biotin! I think the benefits of a proper postworkout drink whether you use malto or dextrose are significant!

Ultimate post-workout shake:

-Half glucose and half maltodextrin
-20g BCAA
-500mg sodium
-600mg ALA
-1 tbs vinegar
-3g vitamin C
-7g creatine
-15g glutamine

Uhh, just don't mix it all together :D

:Puke:

I always go with dextrose, gatorade is almost pure dextrose, and adding orange gatorade to vanilla protein is awesome

Damn on the money. gatorade is awesome in vanilla. My fav is lemon-lime. Makes for a key-lime pie flavor.

Ok, so you want a high insulin response and you use ALA? Please explain. also vinegar reduces the GI of anything you have with it.

ALA will help store the glucose in your muscles.

Vinegar will reduce the GI, but it's supposed to really help glycogen stores. Perhaps take a shot of it 10 minutes after your PWO shake. I think that would be better.

There is no need to take 3 grams of vitamin C at once. 1 gram before and after is plenty.

1g is fine, but 3g is better. No "need" for it, but you'll get more vitamin C in your body with 3g. I've also heard that vitamin C can act like insulin. I don't know how much of an effect there would be with 3g, but I know with IV vitamin C use you're supposed to make sure the person won't go hypoglycemic.
