Did Labcorp alter sensitive estrogen (140244) test?

Hey fellas,

I have been getting bloodwork for a long time. At least monthly for the last 4 years... twice a month the past year. Anyway, I've always used the Labcorp "Estradiol, Sensitive" test, #140244. The range has always been 3-70. As of the past month, its been coming back as 8-35. What changed? Are they doing the wrong test, did they update methodology? Is it safe for me to assume that the actual value is the same, just not the range?

Here is the link to Labcorp's testing description. Unfortunately, I didn't look it up prior to this month. BUT - I have an old document from Crisler stating that #140244 used "RIA" methodology while #500108 used LC/MS. Looks like they changed 140244 to a different methodology as it now uses Liquid chromatography/tandem mass spectrometry (LC/MS-MS).

I got my answer. Neat.

Straight from Dr. Crislers forum...

"Here's some hot news: I just realized the LabCorp Sensitive Estradiol is no longer the outdated immunoassay methodology; it is now the preferred LC/MS. The new LC/MS (same Code as the old one) reference range goes to 35.0. It used to go (when it was immunoassay--showing how same overestimated actual E2 concentration) to 70."

I have a feeling people are going to to adjust protocols if they used this test in the past. My readings, on average, using the old test, were 13 (3-70). My past two readings with new test have been 26.9, 27.9 (8-35). I was worried my E was low this entire time when in reality I guess it was normal to normal-high. Might explain the nipple issues I've had since starting TRT.

Not trying to bump my own thread... with me as the sole poster still, lol... but anyway. A few more thoughts.

For me, since the new methodology being used with test #140244, my E2 numbers have been higher. Whats alarming about that is this is also the lowest TT I have run since starting TRT. For a year I have had bad nipple issues, but my results from #140244 Labcorp Sensitive Estradiol always came back at <15 (3-70). This was while running a TT of 700-1000. I have since lowered my cyp dose, resulting in a TT of 600 peak, and my estrogen numbers are coming back at 27 (8-35) with the new test. I'm sure at the higher TT levels, I was well over the normal range, explaining my issues.

It's weird to me that in 2015, we are still struggling to get proper readings on something like this. They even, just as of the past month or two, updated the test literature on Labcorps website, to explain is usefulness in men, gyno, etc. Hopefully guys with shitty Drs can now print that page and take it in as evidence E2 needs to be tested.

Its definitely a learning process at the beginning. we agree though, blood tests should be used for confirmation.

Strange it was actually higher.

what was your adex dosage before? I'm taking anastrozole and still trying to figure it out.

Zero. I haven't touched adex after crashing my estrogen near the start of TRT last year. Id prefer to stay off it if possible. Hoping even smaller injections, like EOD can keep it nice and low for nipple relief.

Got another lab back today - LabCorp Sensitive Estradiol #140244 - results 36 HIGH (8-35). This is with the same protocol I have run for almost a year now, all the while the old #140244 sensitive test has come back showing me with low estrogen (<15). Looking through my history of posts, 90% are me complaining of high estrogen sides despite having low estrogen on the tests. I guess the tests were wrong and this new assessment method is showing it.

Combine that 36 with my low SHBG... no wonder my titties have hurt for a year now.
