Did testosterone replacement therapy (TRT) play a role in my ACL tear?

Did TRT play a role in my ACL tear?

Just curious here. Had an ACL tear recently doing a jiu jitsu workout. Previously had a reconstruction in 2002 on the same knee. Knee was solid and began jiu jitsu training about a yr ago. Began testosterone replacement therapy (TRT) about 6 months ago. Feel 100% better and don't wanna go back. Just can't help but wonder though if my increased T level/ratios are increasing my risk of these types of injuries. My mom is an RN and suggested this may be the case??

Total T=890
E2= 21

Protcol:
120mg test week
2mg Arimidex week (seems high I know)
750iu hcg week

*currently using a clinic in my area

Wasn't doing anything really hard core when the injury happened either. Maybe it was a freak thing and unrelated?? One thought I had is to see if I can back off on arimidex and let estrogen move up. I've read where 20:1 t/e ratio is optimal for a lot of guys. Any thoughts? Aware of any data that too low estrogen causes weaker ligaments?

I have never heard of test weakening your ligaments. It should strengthen the muscles around them.

For the E2 of 21 was that with the sensitive or regular assay? If sensitive you don't want to go any lower. If regular you are too low. Estradiol helps your joints, among other things. You need healthy levels of estradiol.

I've read where test decreases collagen synthesis. Didn't really unpack the dirty details of the study though

Here is an old post on this forum about test and collagen synthesis. I don't know how true this is, but it is saying testosterone replacement therapy (TRT) doses (100-200mg/week) actually increases collagen synthesis. Looks like it becomes a problem at cycle doses though.

That's an encouraging link. Thanks! I'll have to make sure I keep my E2 in check and go from there.

I did some more digging online and found this article. I think the takeaway is the importance of managing estrogen levels.
