disagreement over deadlift form

it would be more but im having gripm probs right now. once i get that straightened out itll be nice to see where im at.
Ditto. My grip strength sucks.... no straps for me for a while...

This thread got me thinking. I used to lift all back, and started shifting towards more of a low starting stance. Now I feel weaker at the bottom than I used to, I definitely think I've moved too low. Time to staart moving back up.

This is what it's all about boys, thanks.

110lbs in 2 weeks is great!

i said from a strong starting position, not with a back parallel to the floor. many guys are way too deep in the hole when they dont need to be that low. sitting all the way down is overkill for anyone, newbie or vet.

if you sit back and take the flex out of the bar and your arms by arching up this raises you up severlal inches while holding a strong postion (not flat to the ground) try it sometime, youll be happily surprised.

that clip of me is old anyway and i dont pull like that anymore. im higher up now and my back is still in a good position. added 50lbs to my dead in just a couple of months. hmmmmmmm...........

respectfully submitted. =0l

btw im training a new guy at the gym now and on jes his 3 session on deads he addeed 110lbs to his previous dead pr. all i did was adjust his form. no way he got 110lbs stronger in 2 weeks. he weighs under 200lbs.

insane man: if you've been lifting from a high stance, no doubt you'll feel weaker from down low. but do you think your quads are relatively weak compared to your posterior chain? if so, spending some time coming out of a low stance will ultimately give you a higher ceiling for your deadlift numbers.

I am glad that I started this thread although the argument does not seem to be settled. I am right and I am wrong at the same time. My buddy from the gym believes he is stronger because his butt is way up in the air and he uses it for leverage. I think I am stronger because I keep my butt a bit lower than that, thus putting more emphasis on leg strength.

using both quads and posterior will yeild a bigger dead. more muscle groups envloved.

if you are weak outta the hole some pause squats, pause leg press, or pulling off a block willl help to catch it up.

btw husky how much is your friend pulling?

i added about 40lbs to my DL just by starting higher up; i have very long legs compared to my torso, and getting low behind the bar was killing my knees and making the bar stick halfway up... i shifted to a slightly higher position and i really feel like i am able to use more hip leverage instead of quads- i also started doing what PB said- taking all the slack out of my arms and squeezing my shoulder blades together hard. i am much more comfortable now and definitely feel stronger. I can also tell a difference since i have been doing heavy Zercher squats; OMG those fuckers hurt but they really are a great addition to a deadlift workout... good luck!

I am short 5ft7in and he is taller about 6ft2in we both weigh about the same and are about the same in strength. The difference is in our form, I keep my butt a bit lower and his is way up in the air. In training we will usually work up to 515 for 5 reps, we have not really attempted to see what our max deadlift is.

if he would learn to use his quads he would have a bigger dead in the long run. however ego keeps many folks from scaling back to catch up a weak BP.

515 for 5 is a nice set, congrats to both of ya.
