DL Alternative

I have a fucked up lower back from wrestling, cracked vertabrae, sciatica etc... Doing squats kill because of the pressure on my spine and DLs kill for obvious reasons. I said fuck it and do them both anyways.

I was doing DL the other day and my back seems to have returned to where it was when I first fucked it up because my left leg goes completely numb which is gay.

I've always stuck to low rep numbers on deads, the other day did 135x4, 225x4, 315x4,405x2, 450x2. I usually do 2s until I hit 500 and then do singles from there, but DLs are killing my back. What other exercises could I do that would be less detrimental to the back but still keep my numbers in the lift up for when I go back to it?

My gym doesn't have a reverse hyper but a lot of guys have been telling me they work well. I guess the back extension machine would help but was wondering what else you think would help.

Slow down or your going to kill yourself man. I also suffered a back injury, luckily for me it doesn't hurt me to squat so I just do squats and SLDL's + good mornings for my p-chain.

i alternate rack pulls, floor deads, and sldl's and after those i do other prosterior movments..hypers\pullthrus\there are alot but not all gyms have them.

Might want to be carefull if yuor leg gets completly numb,,,mabey go to a doctor.

take a look at the journal sections lots of guys use different prosterior movements.

by the way 500lb for singles is pretty damn good.

Yea they told me to wrestle again they would have to fuse my back but I said nay. I like doing DLs a lot but don't want to drop the exercise all together. Maybe try sticking with it but go much lighter.

any alternative exercise is going to hit the low back almost as much as DL'ing itself..if it didnt then it would not be an alternative to DL's....

I recco that you stop DL'ing and get to a Dr..make him aware that you lift weights and be specific that you squat and pull..and see what can be done..

I can tell you the sciattica nerve pain can be cured 100% through surgery without fusing the back..other things may not be so easy..so i would go to a real doc as a chiro wont be able to do much for your nerve problems..it will only offer a temporary, if that, fix..both my father and brother have had back surgeries and the Chiro did shit for them but it also depends on the kind of problem

have you tried dropping the ammout of wieght you lift? more of a strengthening regimine, for a time, maybe a few weeks, or until your back gets to feeling better.
