Do I need to see an endo

Hello all
I posted under the thread earlier (Needed testosterone replacement therapy (TRT) advice). I forgot one question. Should I insist on seeing an endocrinologist? I asked my doc and he read the bloodwork from my physical and said no. Just to refresh 39 yom 195 about 10-12% bf I have been on 200 mg cypionate every two weeks. Just switched to every 10 days. Levels started at 180 now 120 hence the every 10 days. What do you all think about the endo. Thanks

or another TRT/MD

think you need to go once every week at 100. If you have enough needles you dont need to ask the doc to do that. Or go to the pharm show your script and they should sell some to you

Do you need to? it depends on yoru doc.
Most GP's seem a bit slow to me and not the best at horomones. but sofar he sounds like he might know what he is doing. (besides ygou testc every 2 weeks should be every 6-10days)
personally I WOULD go to an endo. Someone that handles that field for a living.

I'm new to TRT too.

Bryan,

Like you I am new to this board and testosterone replacement therapy (TRT). I am 40 years old and 10 weeks into my treatment. I am on Testosterone Cypionate at 100mg per week and nothing else.

The first thing I did with my GP was test my T level since I had symptoms indicating it might be low. When the test confirmed it was REALLY low he had me start testosterone replacement therapy (TRT) and did more tests (before my first dose of T) to see what my LH and FSH levels were. We wanted to determine if I had primary or secondary hypogonadism. Hopefully you did this too. My thinking is that if your testicles are the problem (primary) then you want to see the urologist. If it is your pituitary/hypothalamus (secondary) then you should see the endocrinologist.

In my case, I am secondary. My GP recommended that I see the Endo just to make sure everything is ok. Even though I have been on treatment for 10 weeks, I am still waiting for my first appointment with the Endo. I get to see him in about two more weeks. I will let you know how it goes with him. I am hopefully that he has dealt with this issue a lot. My stereotyped view of Endo's is that they deal with women's hormonal problems and diabetics all day. My GP recommended this one so hopefully he is good. My view of urologists isn't much better -- it is all just plumbing to them. That is why I really want to continue to work with my GP who should hopefully take an overall view of my treatment. Time will tell. I have learned a lot by reading through these boards and I appreciate this community! When I return for my next follow-up visit I will be asking my GP and Endo lots of questions like whether or not I should be taking an estrogen inhibitor (I don't want my balls to shrink to nothing). It really helps to hear how other people are getting treatment and what seems to work for them.

I am really curious to get my next T level lab tests back so I can see why my new T levels are. One week into testosterone replacement therapy (TRT) I noticed that I was feeling better. 10 weeks into it and I feel day and night different.

One thing I would be curious to know from others is what T level does your doctor have you targeting and what is your age?

As a patient it is your right to do what you want, but it sounds like your GP is not totally worthless. But as with any condition or treatment I do not think one can solely rely on a doc, one has to do some research and push and ask for things. My goal would be to feel the greatest with the least amount of medication possible. Also I think a lot of people that get on testosterone replacement therapy (TRT) want results now and changes to happen immediately, which I was/am the same, after years of feeling horrible its great. But from a lot of reading it seems some doctors approaches are to put somebody on high doses and things like Aromatase inhibitor (AI) and HCG immediately and others start slow and work there way up, which I think the latter is a better way. You probably should have a doc that is doing a blood test every 4-6 weeks until you are dialed and you need to realize every time you switch it up it could take a month to set in. Like was on 100mg of Test E for a month I went up the first week went down then leveled out about a month in. Now I know im not where I need to be and took 140mg last week and really feel no different but I expect to see a raise then plateu in a couple of week.
I have been working with the Va and they are a little slow to act, but I asked for a specialist and they reffered me to the Uro but after contacting the URO the URO will really check blood test and pass you onto an ENDO anyways as are they concerned with is plumbing and function. The endo should be there to monitor the hormonal balance and be able to look at the whol body system not just one portion.
