i had a training partner but he quit on me. Now on squats\bench etc.. i dont have a spot. Yeah at my gym there are usually guys that can spot, but sometimes its just me at the gym, which isnt too good.

do a lot of you guys train with a partner?

Id love to find a training partner that was inot doing the same things as me..
finding someone to train with is invalueable..they can check your form and "coach" you a lot better than just asking anyone who spots you..

I train alone and get by asking people for spots..dont ever let it hold you back from lifting a weight..there should always be trainers at the gym ask them its part of their job..

always use spotters and more than one if need be..be nice and explain to them what you want and how you want things done

yeah i agree, i wish i had a person who lifted like I did and wouldnt complain, (oh i cant understand why you stay at the gym so long). Well today i am going in the gym hoping i dont get stuck like last time w\just me at the gym. Hope there are some guys there for a spot.

i lift by myself.... use the power racks and set evrything up for the perfect height.. below parallel setting on squats, chest level on bench, and i hope you dont need a spot on deads... but i would love a training partner

i have this exact same problem... is the smith machine any less effective than the regular bench? for some reason, it is a lot easier for me to move weight on the smith machine than on a regular bench

bah i used to have a partner back home...only problem is he was a genetic phreek who would weight train 6 days a week....all was great on gear till i ripped my ligaments in my right arm...fun....

now i train alone (use power racks, etc) .. everyone that wants to train with me would just be my apprentices, as none of them have worked out a day in their life just about...and they look at me and go "wow, i wanna be like that...how long do you think it would take me...?" and when i tell them "a lifetime" they think i'm being a smartass...i just don't like giving long answers...BBing is a life-long endeavor....that's why i want to meet a woman who enjoys fitness as much as myself...have her come to the gym with me...well not to spot haha..

......anyway....long story short...it would be cool to have a training partner again

I do not have a training partner per se, however my friends in the gym are always ready to spot me when I ask. If you can't find a spotter ask the girl who works behind the front desk-it could lead to greater things.

awesome! good luck haha

since i moved here i have only met fat and skinny asses, and most of the people in my gym (one of the 24hour nature) don't even know how to lift right...like using the rotating calf pushdown for quads and shit

that should answer your question..
the smith would be my very last resort..i would warm up and then bug someone for a spot on your sets..if i were literally the only one in the gym and it was just housewifes then yeah maybe maybe i would use a smith lol

its karma man what comes around goes around

I train alone, I gave up on all my buddies going to the gym so we can train together their either in love, lazy or just :druggie:. So I just as for a spot when I need it.

yea... i feel the same way about the smith machine... i just hate bothering people for spots when they seem busy working out... and the ones that dont look busy are usually the ones i couldnt trust to spot me. Theres a guy that i am somewhat cool with now at my gym, but his split is different from my split.. my chest day is usually when i need a spot but he works his arms/back that day.. Would it be kinda gay if i asked him for his number and if he wanted to train with me?

I feel your pain man. I'd love to have a training partner, but train solo. EVERY training parter I have ever had has been a chicken shit. THey're either to lazy, not there half the time, or only half there. So I started training solo about 2.5 yrs ago. Usually have someone around that u can ask for a spot. Except now, in the shitty little gym I go 2(which barely can be classified as a gym in my eyes) not hardly anyone is there, or its a bunch of sm. people on the cardio machines and i really don't feel like interrupting their workout for a spotter that wouldn't be able to lift the weight if I needed help anyways. U learn to know what your limits r and when there is someone who'll spot ya u can give her hell. Wish i had a spotter regularly cuz i'd be making much better gains. Oh well, what can ya do??

You guys ever see dudes that train with their gfs?

I saw a 100lb girl spotting a dude benching like 300, that doesnt seem too safe.

I don't see anything wrong with a smith machine.

I bet you could take 2 people with the same genetics. Put one on the smith machine only and the other one on barbell. After X amount of time I bet you don't see any difference between the two.

Usually people can lift more weight on the smith machine because the starting weight is less than a regular barbell. Some smith machines have counter weights, so basically the bar weighs jack shit.

... From a bodybuilder to a powerlifter :D
