Dumbell press or bench press?

What is your preference, dumbbell press or benchpress? Why?

I find I have superior growth with higher volume training with dumbbell presses

Depends on how I feel when I step foot in the gym I almost never do the same exercises every week I need something new/fresh and the pump I get is crazy

I agree with you guys..Im always switching shit up to.keep my body guessing.
Heavy barbell is great for mass cuz of all the weight you can push. But dumbbells also give u a better stretch and allow u to isolate the chest more.

i say if you want a big bench then bench big. however i like to go 2 days heavy one day light, so 2 chest days heavy, next time i may go light with higher reps with the dumbbells. the bulk of my training is heavy triples on a flat bench with some assistance work and some light flies just to work on hypertrophy

same here!
barbell i rarely do, i LOVE free waights! i fine DB's to be the most effective for chest, arms, shoulders ect.
I will use the bar, ez curl bar and other tools, but 80% of my workouts are all free waights and iv put on like 40lb in last 5 or so years AND lost BF% to point i can see abs AND that v shape near bottem (bulking started to a little less so now)

I feel people should avoid using machines as much as they can long term.

ofcourse for free waight i still go HEAVY on them, no pansy lb's here! :-)

I couldn't agree more! shoulders, arms and chest are the best with free weights

I really like heavy DB pressing but i use dumbbell hooks so i can get it as close to a BB setup start position as possible. I seem to respond the best to 4-6 reps the best, i always have done 10-15 with decent results but one thing i really notice is that the heavier the weights the slower the reps are which means longer time under tension. HIGHLY recommend those dumbbell hooks though they are rated like 500-1000lbs so they will not break just make sure you learn to use them correctly before you accidently drop a 100 on your face haha

Both are amazing sometimes I hit bb bench and dumbell in the same routine but sometimes I switch up after 6 weeks of doing one. They are both great in my opinion. You can't go wrong with either.

newbie here :) but another opinion. been doing db presses this year for chest. sometimes doing bar only for decline. the reason was that when i bench with bar i seem to always be concerned with how much i can lift. seems bar bench is one of those "bench marks" in the gym that people judge how "strong" you are.. see too many trying to put up bar #'s they have no biz trying to lift. building no muscle nor power either .
even for me, after all this time, still in competition with myself when i bench or squat. do db presses to keep my form /function better as i'm in it for muscle building not power lifting.

Sometimes do two sets with the barbell then, the third with the dumbell. That will really tear that chest up and test your strength. Just something different.

I do Really Heavy dumbbells flat, incline and decline, and it works more stablizing muscles and can build some huge delts.

I heard dumbbell will jack your stabilizers and shoulders up ! For us older guys I'm 39 plus I have 2 bulging discs so its really hard for me to pick up heavy enough dumbbells, but I still try to do lighter weight like 60 lbs dumbbells after my workout just to zap my muscle tune me up

I like dumbbells better. I like the isolation plus I usually train alone and it's safer for me than a barbell

I go with the variety theory and usually every workout I will do at least 3-4 sets with a barbell and at least 3-4 sets with dumbells. For the third exercise I either do cable crossovers or another exercise with dumbells or a barbell.

i do both. dumbbells or barbells give a good workout . but the thing with dumbbells is that i don't feel symmetry. so i do a little of bench press to have symmetry in my muscle development
