Facial Swelling from TRT?

I did a search but found nothing concrete. I have been on TRT for one year taking 100mgs of Cypionate per week. My face along the jawline is puffy/swollen all the time. It's not bad but in the morning(or after laying down) it is much worse. Within 5-10 minutes it goes away.

My total test is 750-900ng/dl and free test is 25-35pg/ml, depending on when I have blood drawn vs last injection. I thought it might be from high Estradiol so I had that tested and it came back 42pg/ml. Doc put me on Anastrozole and it's now 25pg/ml, but no difference in swelling.

I have heard that people can retain water and have a "puffy face" when doing a cycle. But, it seems unusual that I would have it at 100mgs per week. And the fact that it is worse when laying down concerns me. I asked my doc about it and she aid it is probably a side-effect from the Cypionate as people respond differently.

High salt intake? anything like that? Do you drink a lot of water?

I have cut back on my salt and increased my water intake with no difference. On average I drink about 64 oz per day. I know I should be drinking more water but I get wrapped up with work.

Can you elaborate? Are you saying that now that my estrogen is in line the TRT may not be causing the swelling?

He is saying that estradiol is usually what one would suspect as the cause of this. Testosterone aromatizes into Estradiol. High estradiol commonly results in bloating/water retention and swelling. If your estradiol is managed then it shouldn't be causing your facial swelling.

That means it is likely something that is not Testosterone / Estradiol related that is causing your problem.

Got ya, thanks. That's what I thought but wasn't sure. The swelling is why I had my Estradiol checked. Was hoping it would go away after I got it lowered.

First 64 oz is not enough imo, that's half a gallon. Especially if you are working out.
Now what bodyfat % are you at?
I definitely have more facial bloating with a 1000 test level vs my naturally 300. But when I got lean, so did my face.

I haven't worked out much the last couple months and no clue on the %, but I am naturally lean/thin. I agree on the water and need to try drinking more.

If you're face is more bloated at 1000 vs 300, then TRT can cause bloating even at moderate injection levels? I guess that was my main question. That and if it's normal for it to swell more when you lay down.

Get tested for gluten intolerance. That'd be my third guess after high E2/Sodium intake. Bloat is 90% caused (okay, I pulled that number from my rear) by estradiol causing you to retain water. That's why women bloat during PMS as their serum E2 skyrockets in anticipation of their menstrual cycle.

Gluten intolerances/allergies (Celiac's) is becoming more and more prominent. Not sure if it's that folks are finally getting diagnosed, or if we just consume so much processed flour, our bodies are finally complaining. My wife has a friend at work that had Celiac's for years undiagnosed, and she was a WHALE of a woman. Stopped eating gluten; and now she's a svelte 110lbs from her 205lb former self in a matter of a year. It's amazing how our digestive system works.

My .02c :)

I'd say yes.
Even with my estradiol sensitive around 23, which some even consider low I'm no where near as dry or "look as cut" as when it was under 10.
Now having estrogen levels that low is definitely not healthy long term.

As far as the lying part I also believe that. My face is usually swollen in the morning, nothing crazy but I can notice it.
After waking up a bit, say 20-30 minutes later it's gone. Same with after taking a nap.

Now understand I'm not talking about swelling like I got stung by a bee, it's subtle but I can definitely noticed my normally sharp jaw tends to be a little softer on TRT vs naturally with a low T level. Again though this seemed to go away when I got leaner, although I was only around 10-15%. Once I got around 8-9% the jaw was popping again haha.
I'm sure most people who I interact with wouldn't even notice the bloat. but when I see my face all the time I could definitely see a difference,
especially around the eye areas.

Thanks for the info. My swelling isn't bad and I only notice it in the mornings. But my face is definitely "rounder" than it was before TRT.

Is there anything I can do to lessen the swelling?

Yeah, check for allergies. Do you consume a lot of dairy? That can bloat people a lot. You need to up your potassium as well. It's the opposite of sodium.

I don't consume a lot of dairy. I will try the potassium. FYI my last labs show potassium was 4.3 and sodium was 141.

Make sure your kidney function is good before supplementing large amounts of potassium. I'm not 100% certain on this, but I think I read that it can impact your kidneys.
