Gear, carbs & gains

This thread is directed at one one in particular, it is in fact of collective of several guys finding their gains insufficient.

Making size and weight gains on protein and gear is going to be minimal for most users. Taking in long (slow digesting) carbs is going make you bigger and provide the energy (fuel) for strength and muscle building gains. Think of carbs as gasoline for you car, the less you put in or more you use the lower the gauge reads. Think of your muscles: each one gas tank. Keep all those tanks full and they are to be bigger and weigh more and in turn (look & show) bigger.

Protein is WAY overrated: carbs WAY underrated.

Good post mike. I agree. Another problem I commonly see is guys thinking protein shakes are a good source of protein. Whole food should always be a priority.

Full agreement on man made proteins. IMO a shake a day is fine, I personally use protein powders for "emergency meals" or while I travel. Just the bloating from protein powders tells me something is wrong and at night when my GF and the dog go sleep on the couch....yes that proves something just isn't right.

protein shakes right after the gym is fine because u need it right away and at the end of night ( because you dont need energy(carbs) to sleep lol) but i agree i focus more on my carbs and calories than my protein intake

I've been trying to keep my carbs low and limited to the first half of the day as I'm trying to lose a little belly fat. However, I have noticed that I feel a little rundown every day now. Evidently, it's not coincidence.

^ good post Mike.

i agree, its more about carbs than protein. carbs are the fuel, should be the bulk of your calories

pasta, oats, rice, sweet potato, beans, lentils, chick peas, multi-grain bread are great

Take in as many long carbs as you want EARLY in the day and cut them back later in the day and replace the carbs with fats from nuts and avocado.

i read a study stating you don't need nutrients IMMEDIATELY after working out and the first hour or so after lifting you absorb about 30% less of the nutrients you usually do. how much of this is absoloute fact i don't know. i'm not a scientist. i only drink a shake in the morning now to end my fasting from sleeping asap, whole foods besides that and gains are just fine.

Multi grain bread sucks ass, I hate not eating white bread but multi grains the way the go. I find it hard eating 'unclean' food now, it makes me feel dirty after eating it (not in the good way)

The ratio should be: 3 carbs 2 protein to 1 fat (give and take ) you can always adjust it according to the goals

Great post Mike! I live off brown rice and steel cut oats. I sometimes wonder if my protein intake is higher then I need. I hate to be wasting money but at the same time scared if I reduce my protein intake then I will sacrifice gains.

Same fear for years, I totally understand Bro.

Clicking 49 here, the big protein days are over for me. Perhaps my base is built and my goal of keeping full is obtained on this low protein, whereas a guy still building may require more. I know the difference between 300 grams a day and 120 is no difference except I feel better and have allot more energy on this 120g's protein.

Carbs are also protein savers, so if you take in a lot of carbs, your protein intake wont have to be so high. Thats true right mike? I know theres a lot of broscience out there.
