GM for a 1RM?

What are your thought on doing a 1RM on goodmornings (not suspended)?
ive always worked up to a heavy triple until i felt my form was slipping than i would stop..I know its kinda old but Tate's basic 9 week program calls for going to a 1RM in GM's..

Also i was looking at Matt Smith's training log and it seems he also hits 1RM on GM's as well..

worth the risks?

i guess if they increase your squat, go for it. It seems the point of of ME day is learning how to strain and tracking progress, i know Childress said he prefers 3-5 reps on ME day, so he gets a little hypertrophy and gains strenght. I think i tend to fall into the childress camp on this one. But that is just my opinion based on my short time training. i would be willing to bet you won't find many guys doing GM's to a one rep max outside of Westside, or people who use a strict westside schedule, but you will see guys who train all different types of ways use pieces of louis program, that may tell you something as well.

I agree with that..ive always done a triple unless doing them suspended
and one should be "straining" longer under a 3RM than a 1RM, right?

just wondering if anyone thought there would be more benefit to going a little heavier

It hits the hams and the lower back. I am a higher rep GM guy lately myself.

That sounds like a recipe for trouble, I want to see someone do a straight legged GM and not fall over. Even SLDL are stiff legged, not straight, by definition.

Slightly bent knees and basically bow like I'm meeting the Karate kid

If I bottom out a GM my chest hits my knees, with the bar over the knees as best I can make it. It probably looks pretty damn gay.

I do singles for GM's more often than not, but they are a lift I am VERY confident and stable with. Few lifts feel as secure and natural to me as GM,s I do them with the safety pins set at 3 inches below belly button level, and start at the top, and kiss the pins before ascending. Depth is ALWAYS the same this way.
