i've never tried it before...but i was doing 290 pretty easily and if i recall i was using 80lb at that time... now ive been hitting the 110lb dumb bells like nothing and was wondering what, and if any is the corrolation between DB's and Bar...

and wish me luck on the 315 tonight ;)

If you are training with 110's, you should be able to get 315 easily.
Id say if you're training with 110's, its a maybe. I can use 110's for shoulder press, but Ill be hardpressed to not kill myself with 315 on military press. It just depends.

good luck bro.

For some reason they do not correlate. I have hit the 130's for 6 on shoulders, but wouldn't even attempt 315. I would think someone doing good sets of 110's for maybe 8 on bench, assuming they are legit, should be able to hit 315.

You are up 30 pounds on the dumbells, and even if it were 290+30 that would be over the mark.

You are about where my gym partner is, almost exactly. He just did 315 for 2 the other day after the same on the dumbells. BUT! We have noticed when you first switch back to the bar the strength is actually down a little, but it jumps up A LOT for 2 or 3 weeks and soon you are up 30lbs on bench, 20 over where you were when you switched to the dumbells.

thanks for all the input, i did 2 warm up sets of 135 for 20 reps each to get shoulders and chest loose, then 225 for 10, then 315 for 3...it felt heavy, but i deffinatly agree with you meso about it being down a little when you first switch back to bar...but all in all it felt good, did 225, then a couple 275 on incline, did decline but 315 just wasnt happening then. but im happy i got it !!!

yea, next time...i just wanted to get shoulders lose after not doing bar for so long, but thanks :-D

I do 10-12 slow reps with 135, then 2 sets of 5 with 225. I dont like high reps, it burns me out. I also balance the number of warmup sets to try and avoid "excess." I change it if neccessary of course, i.e. if I feel I strained myself because I didn't do enough warmups or whatever.

Well, to me that is truly making it dude when you can make 3 plates go up & down, very awesome. I know that are the powerlifter types around that would probably chuckle at that, but at the common gym, every one stops to watch when someone has 3 plates on the bar to see what they do with it.

Every time you add a plate and have been doing it for awhile, at least for me I can't imagine only doing one less plate and being happy with it. I'm sure the day will come when my weights will slide (i.e. going clean), but until that time comes I want more!

I have only seen one person doing 3 plates at my gym, at my last gym on the other hand we had a guy doing 5 plates for reps. 35 years old and STILL thought he could get into football :laugh4: but strong as shit and looked awesome.

If you are staying 5 reps or below you may want to mix up the movements every 2-3 weeks, which is the conjugate method, allowing for extended periods of 90% or heavier training without overtaxing the CNS.
