Hand position when doing deads??

Heard that if you don't alternate your hand position when doing deads, you will build up more muscle on one side then the other and look out of proportion. Is there any truth to this?? I usually do deads with my left hand palm down and right hand palm up. It is most comfortable for me. I tried switching it up and it felt really ackward. Any suggestions?

I switch every once in a while just to avoid disproportionate strength gains, and yes it feels awkward because everyone favors one side over the other unless they are truly ambidextrous

pull double overhand if your strictly a BB'er

What if your cursed with smaller hands which make it difficult to use overhand grip. Suggestions?

are you a dwarf?
seriously- i've seen some rather small women deadlifting 3x their bodyweight. i doubt your hands are much smaller than theirs.
do what feels comfortable/natural to you. if you alternate grips, mix it up when you can and don't worry about it. the amount of disproportionate muscle gain that you'll create isn't going to be noticeable from the once a week that you deadlift any more than jacking off more often than that creates.
sorry for being so graphic.

Actually we prefer to be called little people now, thank you very much.
I don't know about these women. You see the "man hands" episode of Seinfeld?

It's probably in my head. I'll focus on doing the overhnad grip and I'll die trying if I have to.

Thanks!

there are some very feminine women with larger than average hands and feet just so you know.
there are some cultures that find that to be beautiful. when i find one, i'm moving there.
:)
yes, just stop thinking and lift. lol

If you need to, like blackbeard the buttpirate said pull double overhand. Use straps if your grip begins to limit you. I pull over under now and can only pull right under left over. So that is how i pull. I know needsize pulls over under and i don't beleive he switches things up.

I started off over under and alternating each set, so for me they both feel right as rain. I also think it helps to alternate set to set fatigue wise.

Do what is working for you then. From a muscle building standpoint, i feell the double over in my upper back more.

i do strictly underhand when doing deads...hope its ok. i guess its because im not doing extreme weight yet.

I have no clue how you can be doing deads strictly underhand, please explain.

i just do it. the weight i do it with isnt that heavy YET so i dont feel it slipping, but the next time i do deads im going to do it overhand.

WHen you say underhand where are your knuckles pointing.

whether your pulling just the bar or 700 start doing them over/under or double over..youll never be able to grip a heavy weight pulling with both hands under not to mention it will mess with your starting posture!!

yea your right. i was just never really educated on the hand position when doind deads. but ill definilty take that advice.

use a hook grip... PB taught me that long ago, and its all i use now, for the first 2 weeks or so it almost feels like you are breaking your fingers, but your not... lol. plus it allows you to build up that forearm strength and size as well :)
