heavy sweaters (garbage bags)

other than keeping your muscles warm, can wearing more than one layer of clothing significantly cause your body to burn more calories than in just a t-shirt? i like to wear a sweater till i break a sweat, but will keeping it on will increase significant fat loss?

also, ive heard stories about wearing garbage bags when doing cardio, to increase core temperature. some people swear that by wearing them, theyve achieved a "ripped" look. does this just deplete water stores? again, increasing body temp does increase fat loss, but with the garbage bags, is it significant? ive also seen some of these metallic bag-type suits for sale at stores. hmm. any input?

(if youre curious, make a hole at the bottom, and two on the sides bottom sides, then throw it over you, with your head out of the middle and arms out the sides. ive been told not to put it on my skin, to wear a shirt underneath, and on top)

you will just lose water weight, not fat. If you are trying to make weight for wrestling then this can work, but it does not help you lose real weight and can over dehydrate you.

They can work before a competition or like Husky said, to make weight. Other than that they are unsafe and unhealthy. Yet they ban ephedra....

every single guy at my gym who is huge always wears a sweatshirt or a T-shirt with a fleece. and they dont have any competitions coming up. any one know why they would want to sweat their balls off? WTF???

Same way at my gym.

The garbage bags are just for water weight... I used to do this for wrestling back in H.S. to drop so I can wrestle at a lower weight.

But once you drink some water you right back to were you started...

i do not recommend this if you are trying to lose weight..like Husky said you can dehydrate yourself this way.

technically, since it does trap all of the heat in the suit,it does raise your body temperature. This in turn does burn calories.Remember a calorie is a measurement of heat. However, the dehydration like everyone else says is really not worth it.To make weight for the army,i used to run with one of those suits on in the 90 degree weather. It did slim me down fast, even went down 22 lbs.in the summer, but a lot came back when i stopped running with it.

thanks for the input, i tried it recently, and yes, i did feel alot more ripped after a cardio session (20min), didnt really feel the effects of dehydration, except for a slight headache, but i get those from intense cardio anyways. i think i might do it once in a while, but for short sessions. or maybe not. meh.
