Heavy vs Volume vs other training methods

Hey guys,

Curious to see your input on this:

What routine/variation of sets/reps/# exercises/schemes (drop sets etc) have propelled you to how you are today?

I did 5x5 and even 4x6 when I first started out to training and gained lots of strength, but no size. I've been doing periodization for the last year or so and have some decent progress but wanted to see what you guys do

example: 9 working sets for majors and 9-12 for minors on volume?

5x5 has helped with strength and size for me. some exercises better than others. for assistance exercises though i'll do around 3x10. for the big compound movements i'll also drop the weight for one more set and burn out occasionally, maybe that has something to do with the size?

I vary the reps/sets throughout the week. Mon-Wed I eat low carb, and do higher volume work to glycogen deplete. Then, Thurs-Fri I eat high carbs and do higher intensity/more power focused work.

Essentially, any popular training methodology will work; you just have to change things up periodically to keep things fresh. That doesn't mean to change up your routine on a weekly basis, but it's a good thing to keep in mind when you find your progress stalling.
