Help Please, Type 1 Diabetic

Looking for some help/advise with regard to my weight.

I'm a type 1 diabetic (injecting Humalog and Lantus), and for many years my weight was about 62kg. Time at the gym and increasing my calorie intake helped to raise this weight by maybe 6-7kg, but it wasn't until I ran 2 courses of Test/dbol and Test/Deca that I really noticed substantial weight gain.

I regularly monitor my blood sugar and whilst 'on' I had to elevate my Insulin levels accordingly. My weight has rocketed to 84kgs, and I'm very happy with much of this. My arms have gone from 11 and a half inches to 14 and a half... and a massive development in shoulders and neck.

Unforrtunately, my waist measurement has shot up as well. From a 30" waist to a 36"! I'm wondering how to go about losing the fat whilst maintiining the lean mass, I'm familiar with much of the advice available and won't ask for anything to be repeated.... but specifically in reference to my Insulin use, will this change any aspect of the dieting/cutting process?

I am aware that stopping my insulin and letting my blood sugar go through the roof will very effectively drop the body fat, but I want to diet in as healthier manner possible.

Many thanks in advance for any advice/comments.

I should give an example of my diet...

Breakfast: bran flakes/fruit n fibre

Then Gym

10am : omelette with ham and mushroom ; 2 slices wholemeal bread.

Lunch: gammon with rice & peas

5pm: Whey protein shake made with skimmed milk.

7pm, Dinner: Chilli with brown rice (I've recently swapped out lean beef mince for Turkey mince)

11pm: whey protein shake with skimmed milk.

And to further clarify and avoid abuse: I'm wondering how the Insulin will affect my ability to lose fat and maintain muscle. If it changes nothing then I apologise for wasting everyones time!

Phew, this is a tough question for an MD.

As far as the diet is concerned, head over to the diet forum and tell 3J what your situation is and see if he can help.

i posted similar question way back,i think it was may first post didn't get much answers ,well didn't get a single answer.
I guess it is a though question and people dont have much experience with that filed ,wish i could help you more man.and i am not diabetic if your wondering .

Maybe I could just try upping the cardio to every day? Maybe 45 mins a day? I have been doing little cardio whilst trying to put on size. There is just very little information on how to combat the fat storing qualities of the insulin without either stopping treatment (which I don't want to do) ...or stacking a lot of fat burners (Clen, T3, etc...). The second approach could be ok but it's not a permanent solution.

Any cardio advice then?

Look, I am definatly not an expert by all means. You are probably going to just have to try a few different routes to see what works.

Type 1 diabetes is a mystery to most of us. I am dealing with type 2. Are you on any extra testosterone now? and did you do a recovery from your cycle?

I can only reflect common sense directions, whether you end up in the hospital is your responsibilty.

First off, you have an ok diet, but reducing carbs down to a aktins style diet might help, again, there is the ketosis that most doctors say a diabetic should never induce,

With the reduction of carbs you can reduce your insulin intake? again, just guessing here.

My father is on insulin now, type 2. he walks about 3-5 miles a day as an exterminator. This seems to control his sugars a lot, and for a man that puts on weight, he has been doing really well. So adding a simple 45 minute walk a day might be enough to count as calorie/fat burning and not stress your system out. I think the stress should come from lifting weights.

Good luck man, and let us know what works and what doesn't, because I will be facing this stuff in my own way

Yes... reducing my insulin would be possible directly proportional to decreasing my carbs. I have considered this, and it probably is the way I'll go if no-one has any better ideas. I'm not naturally a guy that puts on fat easily, I've always had an athletic body type and in clothes you'd definitely not consider me fat. However, I want visible abs and definition all over. Maybe following an almost zero carb diet and maintaining only my long acting Lantus insulin would be the way to go. But I wouldn't want to do this forever (I'm not sure it's that healthy) and I'm concerned that once resume carb intake it will all pile back on?!

I'm new to these boards and being type 1 myself this thread caught my eye..
Realistically, every diabetic is different. That being said there are generally rules of thumb that I have come to understand (most the hard way).
I can completely empathize with the difficulty in losing unwanted weight but there are limited ways that we can accomplish this..
First and foremost you must keep your sugars in check. I'll test 10-15 times a day if necessary when aggressively cutting or bulking, unless you hold little regard for your later years that is.
I do have a couple questions before I can offer detailed advice..
What's your past couple A1C's been?
What's your daily basal and bolus usage?
What is your short term and long term goals for cutting/bulking?

Just realized this is an old thread lol..
