How low can you go

I was talking to a friend recently about the dumbbell press on a flat bench. He said that he goes only as low as his arms would go if he were laying on the floor. I go bit lower than that. I would say I go to where the weights are maybe an inch or so from my chest. On my warm up set today I went to where I felt my arms were parallel to the ground and it felt like i was barely moving my arms. So how low do all of you go? Is there an advantage of not going so low?

Going to low works the shoulders too much imo. I like short rep range on DB press gives me a better fuller pump. An inch or so from the chest is fine. Also keep in mind that height plays a little role in chest work. Guys with long arms that are tall dont need to be going threw a real long range of rep, more prone to injury that way.

DB fly's and/or DBpress as low as you can will strech/work out chest best i feel.
and i let the DB just hang my arms back after every few sets to "force strech" wich also make you grow more.

make sure u r using a amount of lbs you can handle

This is my opinon but that being said, I have rotator cuff issues. Going past parallel with heavy DBs is partly to blame. Now that ive fixed my form my RC's are feeling much better. Same thing applies with BB bench. If you have a proper bridge and back arch your arms wont go past parallel anyhow. Its the flat back benchers that are more likely to develop probs. Yet another great reason to bench PL style.

If youre interested in the stretch then do some DC style extreme stretching after your done doing chest. Its much more beneficial and alot safer.

As for the weight, it doesnt matter if i go all the way down or stop at parallel. I can do the same lbs either way.

see for me the barbell on the bench REALY HURTS my shoulders i hate the barbell and only use it to curle and work four arms.

o laitly iv been doing DC style to my workouts. but only to a point. over time i will do other things. confusing the muscles are VERY good for growth :-D.

Agreed........

use common sense and go as low as you comfortably can.
