Hurt my back snowboarding!

Zero V

Prodigal son
Well my brother was home last weekend... And a large group of us went snowboarding, me and several others for the first time.

Well while coming down at one point I fell(I fell maybe 200 time) but this one was bad my board stayed along the ground, but my upper torso rotated. My back popped quite a bit up the spine between my shoulder blades.

Hurt a little but not too bad.

Well since then Monday wasnt too bad, and on and off I have had some pain. Nothing horrible, but it worries me.

My back between a little lower than my shoulderblades hurts often, I cant really get comfortable, but certain positions do remove the pain.

I have had my father put icy hot on my back down the sides, my friends and him think its a pulled muscle.(I pulled my lower back once and swore I hurt my spinal cord...it was just the swelling had compressed my spine and was causing pain).

Icy hot helps, and alot of ibuprofin helps. I also have taken some Naproxen(once a day) and even used a Soma(muscle relaxer). Upon taking the Soma I napped out, woke up feeling no pain until I started moving(supports the pulled muscle theory).

I am just worried. My back has popped a little bit , maybe once a day. Always a diff spot and when it does it feels a little better each time. Just worried I hurt my spine, but every one tells me if I had done something to the spine itself I would likely know because the pain would be more intense.

Okay My father says there is a lump in the muscle to the left f my spine where it hurts the most. My question is, can that muscle swelling and being inflamed put pressure on my spine causing it the pain?

I mean I have full range of motion, can bend touch my toes, rotate my torso, reach up behind my head. All pretty pain free, its just idle pain.

The problem is No insurance atm....I should have some but my company keeps putting off me and about 6 other guys hire on dates.... When that happens, I am gona rape some insurance for my dental :D

But I am planning on calling a chiropractor tomorrow and getting an appointment. They are fairly cheap(in medical terms) and I can get checked out and an x-ray for about 250-300 bucks. Plus since there is no major pain my experienced friends said even if something is slightly off, they just work it back in though it may take a few visits and hurt a bit, but afterwards I will be fine.

Any input? I mean I function pretty normal. Oh and on a side note, the first two days of work last week(this happend on Saturday) Mon and Tues the pain went around my rib cage to where when I breathed sometimes it hurt. Which I had pulled a muscle before and that is how it felt.

Freaking A I hate how fragile the human body can be, but I am putting my faith in how strong it is as well and how it can recover.

So any one who is willing to input I will be happy, and anyone who is willing to pray for me and reach up to God I will really appreciate it.

Hope you feel better soon Zero, Chiropractor sounds like a good idea, maybe he can do an x-ray (shouldn't cost that much more) before he adjusts you, I love Chiropractors..

p.s (Sorry about your recent loss...Hope u feel better soon)

I had a rhomboid strain that may have been similar...chiro/massages helped bigtime. It's deep muscle..kinda between the shoulder blades.

Thats about the location of it on the left side of the spin. But It feels like the spin itself hurts....but when i have someone press with their fingers on the spine, no pain...but right to the left of it the muscle is knotted. I am hopping its something like that. Having experienced swelling muscles causing spin pain before, thats where my hopes are.

You are having a run of bad luck bro...first your nut is all twisted up now this. You need to be put in a bubble..lol

That was my facebook status! I need to be like bubble boy!!!

Dude these last 2 years, constant infections, turned into I now have tinnitus and look like a hockey player, I got achilles tendinitis(overtraining) the nut issue, the loss of a loved one, and now my back!

Just praying it is ok.

maybe this can help..

What is a rhomboid muscle strain or spasm? The rhomboid muscles are in the upper back, connecting the inner edges of the shoulder blades to the spine. A strain is an injury in which muscle fibers or tendons are stretched or torn. A muscle spasm is an involuntary contraction of the muscle.

How does it occur? A rhomboid muscle strain or spasm is usually caused by overuse of the shoulder and arm, especially during overhead activities like serving a tennis ball or reaching to put objects on a high shelf. It can also occur from activities such as rowing, carrying a heavy backpack (especially over one shoulder) and poor posture, especially from prolonged use of a computer.

What are the symptoms? A rhomboid strain causes pain in the upper back between the shoulder blades and the spine. A spasm feels like a knot or tightness in the muscle.

How is it treated? As in any injury, the immediate treatment is to minimize and limit the amount of inflammation by R.I.C.E (Rest, Ice, Compression, Elevation) and anti-inflammatory drugs. Depending on the severity of the injury, hot & cold treatments, Ultrasound and electrotherapy are proven methods to speed recovery. The later stages will involve physical therapy to strengthen, restore full range of motion and elasticity of the damaged tissues, muscles, tendons, ligaments and joints. Massage is also very helpful as it increases blood flow and alignment of muscle fibers.

How long will the effects last? The length of recovery depends on many factors such as age, health, and if you previous injuries. A mild rhomboid strain may recover within a few weeks, whereas a severe injury may take 6 weeks or longer to recover.

When can one return to normal activities? One may safely return to activities when the muscles are no longer in spasm and one can move the shoulders and arms without pain.

How can one prevent a rhomboid muscle strain or spasm? Rhomboid strains and spasms are best prevented by warming up properly and doing stretching exercises before activities such as tennis, rowing, or overhead movements.

Ah that doesnt sound like my problem -.- Its all in my back...which just popped again and felt great. Its too centrally focused around my spine.

Maybe i just got it all cranked out of alignment?

Maybe. The chiro will know though. Sounds like a muscle issue

If its a muscle issue I will celebrate by giving someone in here a new bottle of a supplement I have an extra of lol.

I hope. I cant wait to call tomorrow, there is a Chiro like 300 feet form my house I didnt know about LOL. Got to work though, warehouse....but my lead is cool, he will let me do laptop wiping and hold off on anything heavy.

Just a heads up! If your lead, pulls out the knee pads.... run!

def have the chiro check it out.in the meantime and I know you won't like this advice but stay away from doing stuff like this till you get insurance. reminds me of back in the day when I didn't have insurance I wouldn't do anything risky always got my sleep in and food in and took over the counter meds the min or before I would get sick.

Its good advice man, I generally follow that rule. But this was the only time I seen my bro in 2 years, and likely wont see him for another.

What am I supposed to say? lol.

But you aint gotta worry about me doing anything until the Chiro fixes me or my body heals up. Im being a big ol sissy right now taking my cocktail of muscle relaxer, pain killer, anti- inflamatory....

The pain aint bothering me atm.

But I swear my back popped real good earlier and the pain went from where it was down about 4 inches. I am beginning to think I literally just twisted everything out of alignment. I cant wait to call tomorrow, I hope they get me in quick. Hopefully its a twist snap there, push pop here, and bam back to good.

Honestly though since a Chiro session is so cheap(around 60-70 bucks) I am thinking I may see one monthly for maintenance reasons and health after this gets fixed.

ah I see on that hand I can def see where you can't say no to spending some fun time with ya bro.

yea lets hope its just something minor that will heal.lets hope the best.

Well got the results.

After getting stimmed(they electrocuted my back lol) for 15 minutes after taking X-rays, he explained to me I sprained my spine...yup...its about as fun as it sounds.

The Xrays show a curve in my spine near the middle of my back now. He said its his job to fix that. He did an adjustment and Oh mah Lawdy let me tell you that felt so good. I moaned, only time I will ever moan with a man touching me.

Crossed my arms and leaned me back onto his fist and told me to exhale then three pops, again for 3 more up higher, and again for a final one up above my shoulder blade. OH man, I feel so much better. He said ice it every hour I can, and keep the naproxen in me. I should be 100% better within a week or two.

I have to go back tomorrow for more work.

But for X-rays, and adjustment, and the stim treatment I only spent 100 bucks...I think I may see the Chiro once a month now period. I swear it helped with my tinnitus too!

Thats right, I do owe a goody to someone. Guess i will do a lil raffle hmmmm

hmm, I will check all my unopened bottles and see what I can work into a little raffle :)
