I know most of you hate gels/creams but...

I found this quoted on another forum:

From John Crissler:

"The only way to go, in my professional opinion, if physician and patient prefer a transdermal delivery system. They are easy to apply, well absorbed, and rapidly establish stable serum androgen levels (usually by the end of the second day). I recommend all practitioners first try a testosterone gel for their TRT patients.

Much is made of the risk posed by accidental transferal of testosterone to others, such as children or sexual partners. Simply covering with a T-shirt has been shown to block transfer of the hormone. The testosterone sinks into the skin within an hour, which acts as the actual reservoir for the hormone??s delivery. One may then shower, or even swim, without worry. I remind my patients that most of us have neither the time, nor the opportunity, for romance until evening (given the recommended early morning application), and a quick shower is always nice to "freshen up" then anyway.

Gels and creams, like all transdermal delivery systems, provide a bigger boost in DHT levels, compared to injectable testosterone preparations. This can be a double-edged sword. As DHT is responsible for all the things of manhood, the transdermals are better at treating ED than the injectables. However, issues of hair loss and possible prostate morbidity (a contentiously debatable point, to be sure) then come into play. Either way, please make sure to monitor DHT with the transdermals. I??m just not comfortable with gross elevations in DHT, and prefer to avoid adding finasteride whenever possible."

I don't know much about Crissler, but people here really seem to hold him in high regard. Why would he like transdermals so much when the general consensus here is that injections are the way to go?

Lol....
These TRT docs see upwards of 5000 patients under their care....
Do the math!
If a good number of those guys are on Androgel.....
He will be looked after $$$$ really well by his pharma rep.

Chiefy don't bate the guys on here with talk of this gels/creams non sense.
The folks around here who been in TRT mode for an extended period of time know that shots are superior to gels/creams.

the pharm companies shove so much money up this guys ass he sneezes quarters

Sorry about that fellas, I honestly wasn't trying to bait anyone into an argument.

If a mod wants to delete this before it gets out of control, feel free!

They are just giving you a hard time Chiefy, no harm posting what you posted, you after all did have a valid question.

Ok cool. I guess I didn't know how deep the rabbit hole goes with this big pharma nonsense.

I was under the impression that he was one of the good ones. Seems I was wrong.

Thanks.

Crisler is a good TRT doc. Because he likes Gels, it has nothing to do with his expertise/knowledge in TRT.
He has good experience using the Gels..Lol
there's nothing wrong with that. Lol
Chiefy, how old are you if I may ask?
You sound real naive on how the world really works.

I'm 33.

I wouldn't say that I'm naive to how the world works, but certainly naive when it comes to TRT.

I just assumed that since he is praised on some TRT forums, he wasn't necessarily in the pocket of big pharma. Lesson learned.

I had a bad reaction to the delivery method used by Androgel (did you know it actually uses Lye in it?) and I sweated so badly after taking Axiron that I literally sweated all the testosterone back out of me.

Injections are superior in all ways but one to the gels/creams/liquids...the only thing they are inferior in is that you have to use a needle. But think about it, you have to cover with a shirt until you shower - which means you cannot suddenly get down and dirty with a woman. No thanks.

Transdermal test = testosterone for pussies. I used axiron because I got it free from the pharmacy.

It basically the equivalent of suspension. By the end of the day I felt crappy because lack of an ester

Chiefy,

How long ago was this? One thing about forums... the content rarely dies. Drs like Crisler and Mariano used to frequent all sorts of forums, but have since died off. If he said this 6 years ago... well.

Here is something VERY recent from him... a presentation he gave. Think it sums up his current position quite nicely.

Downloadable slides of presentation

Thanks,
Jim
