Hey guys! I’m new to this site and I like the involvement of the women here!
I’d like some feedback on what I’m doing:

I’m 31 years old, 5’5, 140lbs and looking to ultimately tighten up a bit. I’d like to put on some muscle then shed the fat. I don’t know my body fat percent…maybe low 20’s.

I’m currently on week 5 of my first cycle on var and love the gains. The strength has increased and I’m noticing more muscle mass. I started week one with 5mg, week 2, 3, and 4 on 10mg, week 5 on 12.5 then taper back down to 10 on week 6 then to 5 to complete an 8 week cycle. No side effects =)

This week I began incorporating a lot more cardio into my weight training days….I weight train 6 days and added cardio (HIIT, vinyasa flow, or a 3 mi run) to 5 of those days. I plan on keeping it up until the end of my cycle then focus primarily on just cardio with some weight training to then shed some fat.

I realized that I’m probably not eating as much as I need to. I keep track using fitday.com. Because I’m around 140 lbs I’m thinking I should try hitting at least 1400 calories with a 40/40/20 protein/carbs/fat ratio. I drink a half gal to a gal of water a day and take all kinds of supplements like, Vit D3, CLA, daily-multi, BCAAs, liveraid, glucosamine, fish oil, potassium, green tea, gingko, ginseng, calcium and a fat burner.

So, how am I doing?!?!? I feel great but also feel like I should be seeing more muscle gains, maybe I should just be patient. Any ideas on ways to shed fat? Diet ratio? Additional supplements?

Also, on days I weight train and do cardio, I try to split them up (AM and PM) but sometimes I can’t so would it be best to do cardio after weight training or vice versa?

And another thing, is red wine really bad for you…..I’m no lush but do enjoy a glass about 3-4 times a week! I’m a Full time worker and a PT student!

I appreciate it =)

Welcome envrchic ! :wavey:

Sounds like your training hard, If you are seeing gains then your pretty much doing what your suppose to be doing. Var will aid in building muscle, but the gains really come from your training and diet.
Those should be the base for u.

If u feel your not eating enough, then I suggest you get your diet to where it has to be, remember if u don't eat enough u won't be able to build muscle & u won't loose weight. You can check out our diet forum, you'll find a lot if useful info there.

As far as a fat burner, I'm using Forgerd Burner from N2BM, it gives me energy and has a great appetite supressor.

and about the glass of wine 3-4 X a week, I say if u enjoy it, then keep doing it, just keep track of the cals your adding.
I enjoy a glass of wine from time to time too ;)

Again Welcome ~ I hope u stick around !
Best of luck to u !

Awesome! I appreciate the reassurance. I've tweaked my diet to where I feel it should be so I'll well see how this does in the next two weeks or so.....my fiance is one of 3J's newest clients and is ecstatic to learn that he needs to add more food to his diet too!

I recently looked into Forged Burner and Need2slin....think I'm gonna give N2S a shot, once it's back in stock!

I'll stick around, lots of info and great interaction here :D

Hi,

The red wine thing, could be ok, but could also be the thing that's making it harder to shed some of the unwanted fat. Maybe if you know your diet is right for you, just have one or two 'small' glasses at the weekend or drop it all together for a short while to see what difference it makes to you.

As for cardio before or after weights, it's the general consensus that it should be done after weights, but if you prefer before and it doesn't hurt your lifting then go in!

Mrs P does it before ( I believe) and she looks great.

Does she!?!? ha, yes she does look great. I've heard that doing cardio after lifting may actually burn muscle instead of fat....that's why I ask. I've been trying to knock out my cardio in the morning and lifting in the evening but sometimes I can't find the time to do so.
As for the wine...think I'll leave it for "True Blood" nights :)

I don't know what type of cardio after lifting you'd do but 20-30mins of moderate intensity would be fine, the science says you get into fat burning mode at around 20mins. To be honest I think over complicating things is where people become stuck. I wouldn't worry so much. Just take note of what works for you and stuff what the neigh Sayers say!!!

Everybody is different. Changing things up once in a while can shock your body a little so do a bit of both for variety if that's how you're comfortable.

Good luck ;) oh and have an extra glass of red wine for me please, I'm waiting to give birth before I drink a nice glass of the fermented stuff lol!

That's great, I ran N2Slin before & I liked it,
I agree with Detour, you have to find do the training that works for you.

I do my 30 or 45 min cardio before weights, I just like it that way, I've done it after weights & I just don't have the energy after weights.
But you should do what works for u.

And the wine glasses, like Detour says u could leave it for the weekend, & see if it changes anything.

Keep up the good work Girl !
