I am having an epidural next month on Fri May 8th. I'm have no fear of doing it and I need it so bad. I have 4 protruding discs. The L-5 is herniated. I just started my cycle as some of you know. The Deca I think is already helping all my joints. However the back is bad although I work around it.

If anyone has had one or some input to my Q's pleas post, thanks.

1. Pain during prep.
2. Pain during the procedure.
3. Pain post procedure, that day.
4. Recovery, how long down time to go back to the gym.
5. Did it have any effects towards lessening the chronic discomfort.
6. How long does this help if it did at al.
7. Would you recommend this to someone. The doc say it may help very much.

Getting old now ... oldmusclemike

I never heard of that for males, is it a one time thing? Same as for pregnancy i thought it was just for completely numbing the lower body?

Epidural is an injection into the dura-mater that surrounds the spinal cord. So an epidural shot can be an anesthetic, like for pain with child birth or numbing the lower body. Then there is a steroidal that can be injected, with some anesthetic (I think) to lessen the inflammation around the spine.

This as you know will decrease my pain and also allow more range of movement because of the lesser inflammation at that area. But seriously I'm not pregnant, Ha...!

I think it is a three month interval if needed so that you avoid surgery. But some day...? :(

yes, I had 2 over a 3 month spread after falling through Mrs. T s attic and my SCROTUM and tailbone arrested my falling to my death ( id hope that would kill me as I would not like to under go that re build) between the Rover and my Audi; it caused the s1 to have a disc..l4 or 5 to exert pressure right where it come s out of the spine. And it hurt like hell.

MY PROCEDURE was simple the first time. They gave me an inject of Ativan ( which mixed nicely with the Xanax I took) then deadened me locally and gave me the shot I was sore..I should say..uncomfortable for 3 day s but back training albeit with no squats or any overhead movements for like 1 week.

But the s1 at l4 still nagged me. 90 day s later I went and they gave me the Michael JX killer Propenol..and as they injected..or inserted it into the my right hand...right when I wanted to say " that burn s like prop alcohol"..I awoke in recovery.

That was the majic bullet as it is MUCH better and though sore and subject to fatigue it pales w my titanium left left knee and lower leg, my fused back and torn left delt.

U ll be fine bro...might need another...and yes it was in the family of cortico steroids but not cortisone but a close cousin.

I ve had 7 cortisone shot s since 1993..my first serious "job related mishap". A 280 pd er who just did not want to comply with a lawful directive.

Thanks man. You've gone the gamut. Your a tough guy, to say the least and you know you are and thank God you are. I also had the C-8 fussed to the T-1. I have now the C-7 giving me some problem with my left arm discomfort time to time but not bad.
So it's not that big of a deal I guess you say but I hope this works for what ails me. I'm so uncomfortable all the time and I'm a bit scared in the gym every so often, but I know if it stays not inflamed I can be successful working around it.

ANYONE else have some input? :dunno:

Yo Mike,

I SWEAR I feel like humpty dumpty...I take care to watch whereI step, use good form when I lift anything to avoid another injury. One more good car wreck or confrontation I feel all these parts will come askew..old age is getting old.

Best of luck to you...

I agree, just wait another 12 years and see what comes out of the woodwork. Keep that smile and pass o the good attitude and the advice you give in and out of the gym. :)

My wife has had these epidural cortisone injections several times. They go in right above the tailbone. She takes the day off work and feels 90% the next day. Hopefully she won't need many more injections.
I've had herniated discs and still have. Bulging disc so I wont deadlift and I limit squats to 3 plates.

I can't squat anymore and I'm even scared of leg press. At my age my back and bursitis holds me back from doing much leg stuff and I hate these guys that don't work legs. They can look freaky, however I'm afraid I'm going to have my upper body bigger than my lower. It's always been that way to a degree. Legs held my competition back with being 5'-11-1/2". Believe me I have lost 1-1/2 inches, and now at 5'-10".

I'll be doing leg extensions n seated curls. Lying leg curls doesn't agree with my lumbar region hence my spine.

Thanks for your input with the injection.

I have two herniated disc c-6 & c-7 which affects my left shoulder & lead to numbness & tingling in my thumb & forefinger.. The pain was so excruciating that I was popping pain meds like chiclets & couldn't lift for about 3 months. I wanted to avoid getting cut on at all costs. Got spinal epidural & it was a game changer, the process was easy & within 3 days I was pain free but just as important I stopped popping the pain meds & was confident enough to head back to the gym & within a month I was moving some heavy ass weight. I'm type 2 diabetic & the epidural elevated my blood sugar to almost 300, this lasted for about 3 days & then corrected itself. The doc advised that elevated glucose was a possibility & I wasn't overly concerned. I received my injection just over a year ago & the only time any pain flares up is when I go too heavy on shoulder day, my doc is ex special forces & also has a few disc herniations & says in the past he's gone at least 3 yrs without another inject. Can't recall the volume that I was injected with, but I can unequivocally say that it's been highly successful so far.

Meant to add, that I no longer squat more than 3 plates either, but I do leg presses & thus far haven't experienced any discomfort. Also I had to go to rehab before I was released back to full duty & they taught me some excellent stretching exercises that I still utilize to this day

Wife was in a car accident in october. She got her first epidural 2 weeks ago. We were the Dr office waiting room longer than it tok for them to do it. 5 Minutes max. She walked in and walked out. Was a little sore that eveining and the next day but was still able to clean the house and do laundry. She is getting another next month.

Well, that's the important part.. :p

Very cool all the input you guys. I'm getting excited to get this done and hopefully it will be a game changer for me. I will have to live with the degeneration that's going on all over my body and the spine.

Ever since the disc came out protruding and the doc showed me the MRI with all the degeneration I found that I have to stay away from any weight that presses straight Vertically down my spine. Overhead press is hard no to have pain and the danger of injury. I never had good traps ( I'm the man with no traps, ha!) anyway I can't do shrugs, standing or seated. Both are vertical stress and compresses my spine.
Just because the pain might not be there or as bad I'll have to be cool with it all. Thanks again..mike

Indefinitely?

I'll be getting it done in the next few months. I just, MUST pay off some accounts in my current financial situation now, before I spend anymore money that isn't a current debt.

Save for your future and don't be like me and be living on SSD for the rest of your life. I blew it all when I was making good money and had an inheritance. Can't keep looking back though. I just gotta live financially, one SSD check to another. I tell you if I didn't have what's left of my BB, the gym and fun with AAS I don't know what I would do. Thank God I can still work out. :dance2:

Thanks for asking me, Half !

Just do bodyweight squats a natural movement forget the weight lots of guys in jail build nice physique doing calisthenics type work. I already know you mike you want to slap on those plates lol

I totally understand as I was making 6 figures doing manual labor in my early 20's, and that money is loooong gone due to toys and other crap that was a total waste of money.

I'm glad that you're not having to put it off indefinitely, as my stepfather has them once a year due to war injuries. They really have helped him come off the narcotics, which are really hard on the body.

I have nothing but the deepest respect for you and your positive attitude. But it's not surprising, given how positive thinking is kind of a prerequisite to bb'ing. ;)

That's a good idea, thanks. Sometimes you think that, that idea is bunk but I really do know better. :)
