The Man with the Plan
I work out and run, I need to shrink my belly. I heard that for two weeks I should workout and do cardio early in the morning on an empty stomach and during a fast.

It is effective to work out and run with an empty stomach?

It is effective but you realise all the cardio in the world won't make a difference without a caloric deficit right? :)
I don't recommened weight lifting fasted, your energy levels won't be the same (no matter what the hodgetwins say) & if your cutting you have to keep the intensity up in the gym.

i think the worst thing you can do is lift on an empty stomach... low intensity cardio is another story.. but lifting while fasted is just plain stupid

I disagree to some extent, and it depends on your goals. When you have excess amounts of body fat, you need to create the calorie deficit, no matter what "plan" you're on. Lifting heavier weights forces the body to use more fat for fuel, so why would you want to give the body more fuel ahead of lifting, when you want it to tap into the fat as much as possible...from reading in the past, leangains.com promotes lifting while fasted, and has more technical reasons for it. However, if you're in shape and are not looking to drop body fat, you will notice a performance hit, as instead of running on high octane, you're now running on regular unleaded....it'll work, but not as efficiently as high octane.

Yea...no it doesn't. When your lifting weights (or any type of anaerobic exercise) your using zero fat for fuel - zero. Your mostly using glygogen & some amino acids (5-10% depending on the intensity).

A basic physiology lesson there: lifting weights doesn't utilize fat for fuel, fasted or not :)

X2. Aerobic exercise utilizes fatty tissue as an energy source but anaerobic exercise like lifting weights uses glycogen/ATP/Krebb's Cycle to fuel short intense bursts of work.
