Is recording your workouts necessary or excessive?

I think I'm going to record all regular compound/iso exercises (not drop sets/super sets). This seems like a reasonable approach

That's good. I would be too lazy to record any more than that. lol

When i cut, i lower the volume but keep the intensity and weight. Too much volume can lead to over training on a caloric deficit. On gear you can get away with this more often.



As you can see, everyone has their own methods. It works for them and they are all unique in some way or the other. Just find something that works for you. Try everything and find something you like that works for you. Just stick to the basic principles of bodybuilding, Progressive overload, nutrition, and rest. It's like a tripod, it needs three legs to stand on, remove one leg and the thing won't stand.

My goal in the gym is purely strength. The only time I ever recorded my workouts was when I started running my first cycle. I did it as a way of trying to measure the quality of the gear and how my body was reacting since I ran a low dose.
 
This is interesting, there are a few guys in my gym that record while lifting and you can see that they have made some nice gains over the past few months. I am curious, I have always used the old pyramid type of routines of increasing the weight a little each set but decreasing reps with each set. I do see some guys in the gym who do the same weight every set but also do the same number of reps every set.

What do you guys prefer?
 
I've done it all and i like to switch it up because it all works if you follow the three rules. Right now i'm doing a standard 3-4 sets same weight, within a certain rep range(right now i'm doing 8-12)
I had a lot of fun with reverse pyramid training. You start off with the heaviest weight for the first set, then you lower the weight but increase the reps. Doing the heaviest weight first when your muscle is at it's strongest is one of the advantages. The other is that the lower weights afterwards feel much lighter and you already got the most difficult part over with. You can warm up if you want before the first real set, so you don't feel like you're going to snap something. To sum it up, what i prefer changes with how i'm feeling and i like to mix it up every few weeks or months and reverse pyramid training is pretty awesome.
