Lab results. RBC & RDW??

Hey y'all. I got my lab results back and wanted to see if you could help me understand this. My RBC is noted as high at 5.73 and my RDW is noted as high at 18.2.

So RBC is my red blood count which means that my blood is thick & I need to donate a pint of blood. Is that correct?

I do not know what RDW is or what it being high means to me. Can you help?

Yeah, I'd donate and re check it. I donate every 2 months and stay under 50, but creep closer. Did you just do a cycle?

Yeah, I currently take 200mg Test C once weekly. Thanks for the info. Can you tell me what you mean when you say you try and stay under 50but creep closer?

Yes give blood, make a habit of it. I do this every two months. Steroids will increase red blood cell count/iron levels which will make the blood thick which causes the heart to have to work harder. Giving blood will thin it out. Also take 81mg of aspirin a day.

He means your Hemocrit level which baseline is 38-50%. Anything over 50% can be dangerous depending on your overall health. Especially if you have high cloresterol or BP. I've had issues wth this if I go over 200mg/wk on test, so I have to donated blood every two months. If you're on testosterone replacement therapy (TRT), your doc or endo may reduce or take you off test if it's too high.

If your hematocrit and hemoglobin, and rbc's are getting high from testosterone replacement therapy (TRT), you need to talk with your doc. Most AAS will increase these. Donating is a good option to remove the volume of whole blood. But this typically is caused by higher doses.

Is there any history of hemochromatosis in your family? Basically it's checked as iron/ hemoglobin. If that small dose is increasing your numbers to much, your doc can order therapeutic blood draws. But do not mention testosterone replacement therapy (TRT) or Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT) when donating blood, they will refuse you and claim you are no longer donating and consider it therapeutic which they will want to charge you for or deny you all together.

Sounds like you are either just getting started or your doc doesn't know much about hormones and replacement. Are you using any hcg? Your hemoglobin needs to be between 14-16, hematocrit between 45-50.

Right now you really do not need to worry, you aren't in a dangerous range but you want to keep an eye on it to insure it doesn't continue to increase. > 19 / > 54 is getting too high for hemo/hemato. Keep an eye on bp. Baby aspirin is good but doesnt thin blood.

So don't get yourself to worked up over this because you are fine and in no danger but you want to donate and get the numbers down, you should get about a 3 point drop. And switch to twice a week injects.

Guys, thanks. I was worried. My hematocrit is still normal at 48.7 & my hemaglobin is normal at 48.7 but they are getting borderline high. So I'll go donate.
Can anyone tell my what RDW being high at 18.2 means??
