Ladies...do you specifically train your traps!!

One of my weekly ponders during my training is "Should I, or should I not train my traps seperately"...more specifically should I incorportate shrugs into my program?

When I first started to train, I had no clue about developmenting my traps, and they to me seemed almost non-existent! However, 2 years later, I feel like I woke up and my traps appeared out of no where...obviously they get worked with other back/shoulder exercises and have become quite developed through that as is...I'm happy with them now, just curious if it's really something I should start doing....

So Ladies, do you train your traps, if so, what do you do to work them? If not, why don't you do them?

Guys, you're welcome to comment too :)

I train traps at the end of my shoulder day - Keep in mind I am in BB not figure though.

But I generally just do 3 sets of shrugs and some pullups on the smith machine.

The girl that Im seeing right now doesnt train traps at all. She says that she used to and that they grew out of proportion (grew very big) and she didnt like the look.

I think I will give them a go for 6 weeks to see what I think. I see people doing them with dumbbells and on with the smith machine...would free weights benefit me more than the sm?? Help is much appreciated!! :)

I do them at the beginning of my shoulder workout. I'd do them at the end but my traps are VERY tight and doing them first helps me warm them up. I do 4 sets of shrugs on the smith machine and upright rows.

I talking about this the other day.. To do or not to do? I never see girls training them at my gym - same with squats though, so that doesn't say much!

Oddly enough I do them on back day. As taxing as back day is for me, doing them on shoulder day is too much for me.

I have no explaination to offer for it. Sorry. It just works for me. :)

i NEVER isolate my traps.. they get hit enough from back and shoulders... *upright rows* hits them hard..

but when i do deadlifts for back, they get blasted..

also, i do not want them growing at all ;) but remember, i am figure/fitness not bbing :)

Aren't traps considered a back muscle anyway? It makes sense to me to put them on back day.

I find I look "unbalanced" without working them. My delts get big in a hurry.

Dunno. I've just always done them that way. Heck, I'm already in the cage, might as well get 'er done. ;)

realistically traps are tied in with back YES.. but also they tie in with shoulders, so i have clients that train traps with either or..

I used to train traps every 5th workout but I found they grow so much from hardcore workouts if I train them they get out of control and round out my shoulders. So now I don't train them at all.

I dont train mine specifically but I do upright rows which hits them anyhow. Somehow they seem to be rather developed anyhow just from the rows. I wish the rest of my body responded to quickly and easily. Chelsea

I started training them bout a month ago, they grow so fast... so I have been training them every other week on back and shoulder day

Traps are on your back, but insert on the shoulder girdle so I guess either way you look at it, it is ok to do them with back or shoulders

I like to hit em on back day. but if i run too long on back day with other exercises, then ill hit them on shoulder day. either way, ill juggle em between shoulder and back day.

I train traps with shoulders...at the end of the workout. 6 sets shruggs with barbell, 10 to 15 reps. I am bb , not figure. I didn't use to train them specifically but i have noticed that when i get ripped they just melt away and i look unbalanced, having my delts big. So I made up my mind to focus on them better an grow them huge :)
