Leg day

After warming up...

4 sets of Leg Extension to failure with 200 lbs SUPERSETTED with 4 sets of Squats for 10 reps with 405 lbs

3 Sets of Leg Press 20 reps with 32 plates SUPERSETTED with Leg Extension to failure with 100 lbs.

3 Sets of DROP SET Seated Leg Curl 200 lbs dropped to 120 lbs each set to failure.

3 sets of DROP SET Standing Calf Raise on a Smiht Machine with a platform 315 dropped to 225 dropped to 135.

Legs are done after that.

Yes, it works to build mass like crazy if you have the heart to do it correctly...

The key to building legs, just like every other body part, is to train the muscle not lift weight.

Just like with benching, everybody gets keyed up on how much weight they can put on their back or how many plates they can load on a press sled....most guys I see aren't doing anything but trying to lift weight and not actually focusing on training the muscle.

Cashout, legs are lookin bad ass. I prefer a routine like 5x5 for leg mass. I don't like a lot of high rep shit and my body has never responded great to it. Everyone is different. For 5x5 I would do a squat or deadlift for 5 sets of 5. Then I do something like lunges 2 sets of 8-12, glute ham rasie 2 sets of 8-12, leg curls 2 sets of 8-12, and leg extensions 2 sets of 8-12.

The problem with the low rep 5s type of programs is most guys get fixated on the weight and how much they are lifting.

Most guys spend more time trying to set "personal records" with their lifts and in the end they still fail to build quality legs.

It deteriorates into "weight lifting" and not body building.

You have a valid point but you know as well as I do that just because one routine works well for one person doesn't mean it will work for another. Everyone is different. You just have to find what works for you. I myself do not respond great to a lot of high rep stuff. I am a firm believer in low reps on compound movements for mass in the 4-6 rep range. Everything else I do 8-12 reps but I don't do a ton of accessory work. Not knocking you though, your legs look jacked as shit so it definitely works for you.

No I agree you are 100% correct - it is about finding what works for each of us.

I wasn't implying that the low rep schema doesn't work - it does. I've don't plenty of low reps sets myself early on in my body building career. As long as the mindset is correct, it will produce results.

I was commenting on the fact that too many guys get caught up in the act of "lifting weight" as opposed to "training the muscle."

That seems especially true of younger guys. In many cases they gauge a "good training session" by how many sets and reps they did with their heaviest weight as opposed to how each set felt and the workload placed on the target muscle group.

Again, the most important thing is one's goal. I am purely a body builder and my goal has always been to develop as muscular and proportional a physique as possible. So, how much weight I lift really has no place in evaluating weather or not I was successful in achieving my goal. How I look is all that matters to me.

Damn cash nice freaking wheels bro!!! Legs are a low spot for me. I got knee surgery and i just can't seem to get my strength back. I tried slow and steady and that seems to work good but as soon as I start getting up in weight my knee starts bothering ne. I'm kinda in a shitty spot cause I don't want my body to look disproportional.

Let's get some new pics Cash! I remember seeing these a while back! Or maybe you were just wearing the same undies and shoes! haha

I've read you post about training calves, and since then I've adopted your philosophy and I find it's working alot better than the way I use train (trying to go heavy). thanks for letting us in on your leg routine cashout.

Those pics are from a few weeks back...end of end February from when I did the quarterly photos.

They were taken here at the house in my gym. Since I train at home, that is what I train in...got 5 pairs of those for every training day during the week.

Thanks Herm & Blondie...I've always taken great satisfaction in the work that goes into the proper training of one's legs.
