I hurt myself last fall(something in my hip joint) Never had insurance so had a physical therapist check me out and he thought i tore some cartilage and said it may heal on its own but unlikely. WOuld prob. need surgury.
Since then haven't been able to do much, but lately have felt good and can do more lifting.
So far i have been doing rack pulls, hack squats, leg presses. I still can't do squats, pullthrus hurt usually, and can't pull much weight on deads. Seems like anything that involves rotating hte hip too much is out. I can do GMS some tho.
My ? is i've been doing basically the same program for several months cuz i don't really know of many alternative exercises that i can do w/my fucked up hip joint.
My current split is back/bi's/(rack pulls on this day), chest/shoulder/tris, legs(leg press, gms, calf raises)
What r your guys suggestions???
My current program looks alot like the program on the deadlift sticky on page 6
thanks

I dont' see anything wrong with your current split, bro...unless you're getting bored with it. does stretching bother your injury??

no stretching seems alright. I couldn't do the splits or anything if thats waht u mean :P
seems like it is bothered most when the joint has to rotate much. (squats really bother it(but for soem reason hack squats don't usually)
deadlifts i can do w/light weight, but forget the heavy stuff.
Suppose i should just get the damn surgury

How do you know you need surgery? Did you have xrays or an mri done?
No....i had a physical therapist check it out a day or so after the injury and he said to the best of his knowledge he thoguht it was a librial tear or something like that(torn cartilage) and he said if it was i would most likely need surgury but in rare cases it heals on its own, but usually doesn't due 2 lack of blood flow there, etc. He said he couldn't tell 4 sure cuz he couldn't c it, but 2 get it checked out. I didn't cuz i didn't have insurance and couldn't get covered at the time(long story)
now....many months later im much better and can do most exercises that don't involve alot of hip rotation.

No offense but there's no way that a PT would know that without some advanced imaging (and then they wouldn't be able to read the film). It might be a good guess but no ortho will do surgery without getting an mri done so I would get a consult from an orthopedic doc.

Yeha.....he said that was his best guess pretty much by the way i responded to diff. things he tried. He told me 2 go c a doc, but I didnt' have insurance, nor the extra $$ at the time so thought i would c if it'd heal on its own. I didn't say that is WAS for sure torn cartilage....just what he thought.
Guess i'll get it checked when i get insurance.

when you going to get insurance?

If you dont have insurance and it is somthing that can heal on its own then take some time off of lower body.

how did you do the injury in the first place?

the physio was probably referring to a labral or labrum tear, which he would probably be able to diagnose by pushing down and grinding your leg in a semicircular arc through the hip

docJ is right about getting an MRI, but if you aint got the $$ then you aint got the $$.
