Looking for gym in Ft Lauderdale

I just moved to Ft Lauderdale (the Landings near Federal & Commercial) and I'm looking for a good gym. If possible I'd like to stay away from the big sales staff/long term type place, but that might be impossible.

What ever happened to the gym that you paid the guy behind the counter and worked out for a month...am I that old-school?

Not that old school, those places just don't advertise generally (unless they're like Metroflex over in Arlington, and that's just b/c Ronnie endorses it/trains there) You can find those real gyms, you just have to look, HARD.

There's a gym in the city I grew up in called Sonny's. It is in the white pages but not in the Yellow pages of the phone book. In the white pages you can't look under 'g' or gym to find anything. What you probably need to do is ask around in town and look closely while driving to familiarize yourself with the area.

Hell, my gym back home didn't even HAVE a phone. You had to call the local dentist's office (guy that owned the place) to go pay and get the code. Small towns, that works quite well.

Hey - The Firm Fitness on Federal/Sunrise is the best gym around. Ask for Tangene and see if she'll cut you a deal. Great way to meet some friends too, everyone there likes to party and the bros there all bounce at the downtown clubs. Great way to make connections. I was always VIP at the clubs after joining there!!

Oh and stay way aways from LA Fitness, they are sales whores and there are far too many people working out there.

there is also a FIRM in downtown by las olas and second avenue. I was going there for a year when i was in FIU. Good gym, never crowded.
