Lowering DHT & BPH and Prostate issues

Hey guys,

Just wondering if there is anything that can help lower DHT and keep my prostate happy. I'm on Cialis which helped--but as soon as my Test. levels just up to snuff my symptoms returned to normal. Now they want to do something to remedy that since it's causing my bladder retention at an unhealthy level. Other than that everything works down there at it should--not complaints. I can add in Tamulosin, but it causes me to be a bit light-headed and retrograde ejaculation which if just plain funky.

But some of the surgical fixes outlined to me were downright scary.

So the question: Can I keep my Test levels high(er) but somehow combat the levels of DHT that are likely pissing off my prostate?

Me: 47 Test.Cyp. at 100 week (50mg e.3.5D), Cialis 5mg e.d.,

Finasteride (propecia,proscar)

I was just researching this last week and found this study

ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/10495374

RESULTS:

Scalp skin DHT levels declined significantly by 13.0% with placebo and by 14.9%, 61.6%, 56. 5%, 64.1%, and 69.4% with 0.01, 0.05, 0.2, 1, and 5 mg doses of finasteride, respectively. Serum DHT levels declined significantly (P <.001) by 49.5%, 68.6%, 71.4%, and 72.2% in the 0.05, 0.2, 1, and 5 mg finasteride treatment groups, respectively.

Amazing that doses way lower than the 1mg in propecia still drop DHT significantly. Maybe taking a very low dose would be the way to avoid the limp noodle people complain about when taking this drug.

What's your estradiol at? Waaaaay too many doctors don't realize that estradiol is the big hormone that messes with prostate health. DHT is a culprit, but unless they pulled an assay showing elevation, I'd look at E2 given the fact you're on TRT.

Hey Halfwit...I pulled E2 about two weeks ago and it was within range.

To provide a bit more background...I've had BPH and bladder retention for more than 15 years--way before starting TRT. Actually I could attribute it to the use of STEN years ago. That was popular steroid from Mexico and I remember that it was notoriously linked to raising DHT levels. But I knew nothing about PCT, there was no internet to speak of so what's a 25 year-old to do?

So maybe I did it then. But this sort of thing runs in my family. My dad, grandfather, sister....even nieces have issues (although not with BPH!). LOL.

I'll run my lab work again next week. But I've been super good--it's being run about every 2 to 4 weeks which I think is better than you guys usually recommend. Everything is in check.

Any other super drug that can bind to DHT to see it that helps my BPH?

Thanks.

Almost all men will develop prostate issues if they live long enough. Just a sad fact of life. Have you tried increasing your cialis to 10mg ED? I know some guys can't tolerate higher doses, but I know many that do need the higher dose to see full bph relief.

Try to get the sensitive estradiol assay if you can. It just paints a better picture in situations like these. I honestly don't know of any drugs that reduce DHT without having their own plethora of side effects. It's often WORSE to take meds for hormonal correction as they will often effect other areas, which is often unpleasant - like propecia/finasteride (which I don't think would impact systemic DHT anyway).

Edit: Have you seen any rises in PSA? That's what I'd be concerned with personally.

PSA is super low. So that is good.
I'm going to have a lead screening as it can contribute to Hypo G. and BPH. I work on old houses so an exposure route is there. Plus as a kid we played with lead--I'm sure I was chewing it. Not sure that my parents knew any better.
It was a wrestling match with my doctor to order a lead test. Then I found it online and I'm going to do the labwork via that route. I'm over Medicine's attitude that they always know best and that I have make a co-pay in order to order blood work. Ridiculous.

Thanks for the advice. I will also order a sensitive assay on my next round of blood work. I need to check my hemo/hema in a week or two.

Thanks again.

Please follow up with the lead results. I'm all too familiar with potential poisoning as I used to do a lot of residential HVAC back in the day, and was exposed to asbestos and other nasties. I've honestly never thought about checking that, so I'm really interested in your results! :)

Yes, I'm putting together a list of possible causes for my issues.

Turns out lead or heavy metal exposure / poisoning can cause both damage to the prostate causing BPH and also decreased Testosterone production / hypogonadism. I tried using Private MD Labs---even sent them an email to inquire--but they don't do lead tests. I found Request a Test and they offer it for $49. Same basic drill...go to Lab Corps or some local vendor and they email you the results.

I'll let you know what I found out. Lead poisoning and /or high lead levels in the blood can be treated but the procedure is not all that common and it's a specialty.

I'll keep you posted.
