it used to work for me but shiftwork has ruined any hope of sleep even with a prescription .
if you try it buy a name brand and in the sublingual version , 5mg is a good start .

I take 3mg, I went up to 6 but you seem to become immune to it's affects, I now take 3mg sporadicly 3 times a week to keep it's affects . As far as affects go, the stuff is amazingly effective...it turns a 5 hr sleep into an 8hr sleep...the probs for me were I find it impossible to lie in as I wake up to refreshed to early, plus the vivid dreams are freaky, you dream alot more and they are very involved...I've now hooked about 5 of my friends and there results are very similiar.

Is it worth it, yup 100% and they cost about 10$ for a 100x3mg

I don't like the stuff. Took it for a while and I was fucked without it.

I switched over to fresh valerian and I love the stuff. Deep Sleep by Herb Etc is an excellent product that allows your brain to create melatonin instead of just giving it to your brain. This keep the brain healthy as far as melatonin production is a concerned and gets you to sleep.

I also found that increasing my magnesium intake helped me sleep a lot better.

As with most supplements, I experienced little effect from it.

I've started b6 now and this makes me sleep much sounder then the melatonin, infact I've stopped mel for the time being.

valerian works wonders...not only is it a sleep aid, it also serves as an anti-anxiety herb, so it chills you out if your a little bit overworked. ive taken everything from valerian and mel to ambian and other presriptions meds and honestly like valerian the best. i cant comment on the differnce between fresh valerian and pill form, though i know the fresh stuff supposedly smells like a rotten bag of goose shit.

I'm not sure if i should post this b/c i do not know the side effects of long term use but. . .1 tiny pill of equate brand benadryl(the wal-mart knockoff) puts me out like a light when i need sleep. it has the same active ingredient as tylenol PM. I have tried melatonin with good results but it fails to work after a couple of nights. I have not found anything otc that works as well for putting me to bed.

You can become "addicted" to it like anything else. Its okay to do from time to time if you really need to get to sleep but I wouldn't recommend keeping that part of your nightly routine.

The only thing that really works for a sleep aid is a consistent pattern of sleeping. Any drug will either wear off or incur dependence. Unfortunately sleeping regularly 7days a week, 52 weeks a year doesn't work.

nothing works for me, vicodin barely knock me down any more... but i just bought some product with gaba, valerian, melatonin and theanine and I fell asleep before midnight last night my first time in my whole life... its made by schiff or something its call knock out.

The body naturally produces melatonin in the pineal gland, but it is up for argument whether taking melatonin has any significant effect on melatonin levels in the body.

i use the 1mg tab that dissolves under the tongue; and sometimes even cut it in 1/2; just enough to give me the edge to fall asleep. the poster was right about the vivid dreams and the emotional attachment if used on a regular basis. I usually only do it 3 times a week; on days I train hard and use ephedra during the day; the melatonin counters the buzz from the other.{dont discount a good porn vid and some hand action; that puts me to sleep in no time, too!} lol
