Modified DC training check-in

HowardRearden

see you down in AR bay..
Howdy folks,

Been on a modified DC-esque low volume three days per week split for nearly a month now. I am checking in to tell you of some of the gains I've made in the last month after coming off a high volume, overtraining to the gills type routine, and spinning my wheels for months.

Since beginning this work out I've made strength gains across the board.
Flat bench max has went up nearly 20 lbs. Dead lifts are still at my previous max but am able to squeeze out two more reps than before. I have not maxed on squats. Before I was doing a squat to about 3 inches above parallel, now I go to just under (an inch or so) parallel to the floor. And let me tell ya, that's a whole new ballgame, holy shit!! I am killing myself to get 6 reps with a relatively small weight (as compared to before) with the proper form and approach. I am learning to love that exercize. I swear, sometimes after a day of squats I feel like I've literally grown!

I have gained nearly 10lbs in the last month, some of which is fat no doubt because I've been eating like a freight train and busting my gut to get 300g of protein per day. Don't think the body fat has increased that much though. I am satisfied that at least a good portion of it is muscle.

Low Volume is working beautifully.
If you found yourself fatigued or plateaued for months, this is what you need.
It's the only answer to those of us that are/were perpetually overtrained.

Much thanks to the vets and mods on this board that are spreading the word on a true approach that yields gain. With the gross amount of bullshit and misinformation floating about in the BBIng community, good info is a breath of fresh air.

There's literally a wealth of information here. Thank you for the info.

dont mean to be a dick but you either train DC or you dont. based on my experience lurking at intensemuscle he doesnt like people modifying his methods and still using his name. it works best done word for word. but congrats on your gains none the less.

depends on what your goals are if it works best for you or modified. no one routine can possibly work best for everyone. hell dante tell you that. sides he ought to be happy that folks are applying his principals with great sussess (he is). doesnt bother me a bit when someone says they have modified one of my routines.

on a side note in-human asked to make some mods to dc's routine for him to try. =0l

its kinda like the artist formally known as prince. i mean what ya gonna call it? its a modified ♀ routine?

sides that his word for word routine is over 300 pages. give me a break.

your right PB let me rephrase...its wrong for someone who isnt experienced to change it. it would be best for them to just follow it as is. now if someone like yourself, IH, etc were to reccommend the change thats cool. my bad

no prob :)

I got my ass jumped on here once before for saying I was "DC training" and someone insisted I was not because I had not paid for Dogg Crapp himself to train me on all the subtlties of the routine one cannot find online, and therefore, to NOT say I was actually DC training. Very well, I respected that. I came up with a nice little euphemism to avoid the confusion and bitching, "Modified DC training". Keeping in mind I cannot "follow DC training as is" because it's not posted in it's completest form online. And still yet I get superfluous bitching..finicky bullshit when I want replies that are applicable to something. I ain't lookin' to get on here and cluck like a buncha bitches over what to call something and what notta.

Alright, in the future I am COMPLETELY avoiding anything resembling DC in reference to my training. And to clarify for all: I have been using a LOW VOLUME 3day/week training split with DEADS, SQUATS, and CHICKEN BREASTS as the staple of my training. Can I call it the D.S.CB. routine? nah, that still probably resembles too closely.

haha, I like the "Prince" analogy PB. Hehe, a rose by any other name smells just as sweet.;-)

call it the modified howardrearden routine. then we'll know that ya talking about. either way keep us posted on your results.

braveheart was a great movie btw.

congrats on ur progress...i to was on a dc style program for about three months but have gone back to a high rep low set scheme...a bit like mat-ot. the reason i did these was because i was waking up mornig after morning feeling like death was about to knock on my door. dont get me wrong...i loved the low volume stlye of traing, but my joints were just aching all day. i was tired, grumpy ans lethargic....i needed a change.

best of luck with it

do you bench or are chicken breasts referring to chest?

Eat it, thanks for your post. I can understand the feeling like death in the morning thing. My joints are not aching but I sure am sore and lathargic for quite a while awhile. Lemme ask you guys this: For the first couple weeks I was trying to hit deads and squats during the same week. I would pull on monday and squat on friday, thinking that by friday I would be healed enough from Monday's deads. Wrong. Friday rolled around and my quads, hams, and back are still a bit sore and weak feeling. Should I be recovering faster or is this typical and I should just get on with it and train? As I said, I am eating my 300g+ of protein per day and am trying to get plenty of rest. Think maybe I need some glutamine? Something else I've noticed, even though I've been eating a ton, I ain't be shitting that much (as crude as it sounds). Ever experienced this? I suppose that my body is using most the fuel I put in it, either that or I'm gonna get hit with one helluva case o' constipation soon.

PB, glad to see you're a braveheart fan. Great flick indeed

first of all, it was a joke. and second, wouldnt it have been easier to simply say, starkraven, i also flat bench? instead of finding that quote and then quoting yourself?

o yea...i read that, i was just wondering if there was another one.

the whole thread (300 pages) is over at animal's board in the training section. took a couple of years to get it done and some of the data is old and some only applies to guys who stay on year around. you'll have to sort through it.
