Need to strengthen abs....have no muscle endurance

My abs seem to be very weak and they get fatigued rather quickly. I have a police entrance exam in a few weks and I need to do 37 sit ups in a min.....I know this may seem easy for most and I have seen people way out of shape do it but for some reason my abs fatigue rather quickly. I am pretty strong when it comes to lifting so I cant understand why the abs are so weak.
I have been doing situps every other day but they still seem to fatigue at the same sticking point..
In the past training abs I never did situps....mostly crunches.....rope crunches and leg raises....but I need to get these damn sit ups down to pass...lol

Any help or advice much appreciated.....I though maybe they are tired from my regular workouts?

I wish my abs got tired. i can do situps for an hour without feeling anything, lol. I need to do different situps.

Again, let me know how your doing yours.

Thanks.

If you're doing only situps, then that could be a possible problem in and of itself, as you're only working that one range of motion. Try incorporating several different types of ab work (i.e. knee ups, leg kicks, ab rollers, inverted [hanging] crunches, etc.) to help build up strength in the full ROM. That also should help to increase the number of pure situps you are able to do.

Golden:....I havebeen doing them at the house with my feet braced under my couch my hands behind my headand elbows flared out rather than tucked in to the side. when I come up I touch my elbows to knees and go down till shoulders touch the ground....I guess I have a slight bounce in my ass when coming up also..lol.....Any help is appreciated.....I am going to incorporate some other movements in as well....just wanted to be sure I get these situps down for the test.

Legs straight or bent? Knees out or touching eachother? Also, how fast or slow do you go?

GM, why don't you add weight?

I do weighted crunches with a DB on my chest. Save for the time I dropped it on my finger, they work great.

I dont see how you cant do 30 situps then. Just keep working them hard twice a week IMO. Slow them down a bit too.

Also, if your feeling them that much, you must be doing them right, so keep it up!

You know what bro...I honestly cant see how I cant either....lol....but in the past few days my speed has gone up as well as how many I can do...I have a few weeks before my test so im pretty sure I'll be ok...Like I said I am in pretty good shape and pretty strong with weights....I guess I just neglected my abs a little bit.....Again...I appreciate you taking the time to help me out...I'll let you know how it goes...
Thanks bro

No prob, thats why im here, to learn and help.

Hold a dumbbell on your head for an extra set. That will make them stronger. Start with a 5lb plate. Also do some leg raises. Those help with endurance. Dont let your heel touch the ground, and do them for as long as you can.
