New Direction For PL'ing

Dear APF/WPC/WPO lifter:

The WPO is going in a new direction that ultimately will bring more credibily to the Worlds Strongest Powerlifting Organization. I have decided to have the WPO BB4Cash along with a WPO Qualifier at the GNC SOS in Atlanta. GNC has lost so much money with his expo that they can't bring anything financially to the table. For the first 2 years they put up $30,000 for prize money, but now can't give any money. Last year at GNC SOS I had to put up 70% of the prize money myslef. They said this year they would be back on track, but just last week they again said they still can't provide any prize money. So I have decided to go back to renaming the contest the WPO Semifinals, and the contest will be in Finalnd combined with the WPC Worlds, but run seprately. If you placed in the top 5 at the Arnold Classic you are automatically able to go back to the Arnold Classic without having to go to Finland. I completely encourage that you go anyways because there will be $40,000 dollars in prize money, and it will be the best lifting experience you have ever had. Super Elite American lifters are idolized in Finland. Bottom line lifters are treated like Gods over there(Europe)!! People will ask you for your autograph on the street. This contest will be the closet thing to the Arnold Classic, but with no expo. In 2002 I lifted in Finland, and there were easily 3000 people there. The word is already out that the WPO is coming to Finland!! It will be exactly like any WPO meet with music, card girls, and lots of Huge Iron insanity as usual. This meet will make the GNC SOS look like a bake sale!!

I realize that some lifters will not be able to afford to go to Finland. Some lifters will be upset, but I have always wanted more Intenational lifters in the WPO. It just makes the Organization more credible!! This past Arnold Classic there were a supposed to be 6 Russians, 8 Ukrainians, 6 Finlanders who were coming, but in the end couldn't get the money together. There are many IPF lifters who have heard of the thrilling experience of lifting at the Arnold Classic who want to experience it first hand. But they just can't afford multiple trips to the United States. So this is one factor that is driving this decision. The second reason I'm doing this is simply money. From now on the WPC Worlds/WPO Semifinals will go back and forth every other year from Europe to United States. I said awhile back that the WPC Worlds will be hosted in Europe for the next 3 years, but hings have changed obviously. Trust me this is the best thing that could happen to the WPO!! Thanks for your support!!

well ive heard some other guys say that going to Finland isnt an option..
this was taken from M. Ruggiera's log at EFS

"I haven't made up my mind yet about the APF Seniors. It might be a little too close and I'm pretty beat up. Not to mention the whole reason for doing the Seniors was to get to the WPO Semi's and eventually the Arnold. Now that the Semi's are going to be held in Finland you can count me out. If by chance I do the Seniors it will be my last 'hoorah'. I had some lab work done before this meet and the results were not good. I have to drastically change some things or I'm going to be in big trouble(please don't ask I don't want to talk about it). I'll still post my training if any of you are interested and answer any training questions that you might have."

I think going to finland is not going to be good for the WPO imo. I think alot of guys are going to pass.

true this is a lot different than MLB going to japan to play a few pre season games

Honestly, if you look at how at this point, competitors dont win all that much money in contests nowadays due to low funding of competitions (other than the actual big contests like Arnold classic, etc) they will be flat broke just to even fly to finland and pay for all the accomodations and food...IMO, they should have a contest here and IN finland to accomodate both sides of the contest...
