New max for me

Mc deal meal special
I was so happy that I wanted to share it with everyone.

I had a new max on bench today: 295*1. Here is what I did before I got it.

2 warm ups:( use the power matrix for bench)

230*5
255*3
290*1
290*1
295*1 NEW PERSONAL RECORD
230*7

It felt really really light for me. I'm gonna do 300 next bench day. Using the power matrix set up of course.
Anyways thats all.
I'm getting stronger now and love it. All my Plateaus are now gone.

Without doing the 2 sets of #290 for a single, I'll bet you could've gotten #300. Maybe more. You did 2 sets that were only 5 lbs. less than your max bro, BEFORE your new best. You were burned out. You could do more if you lost those. Maybe like this:

#135 x 15
#205 x 3
#265 x 1
#300 x 1.

Then do a set of 15 for a burnout.

I also feel you did way too many worksets before your max, on top of the fact you burned yourself out beforehand.

Either way...........good job!

Personally, If I am going to try for a new max I only do 2 warmup sets of 10 reps light weight (135 - 185).
After warmup, MAYBE 3 - 5 reps of 225.

Then try a new personal max....dont try something you know you can do. Go at least 10lbs over that.

Thats just my philosophy!!

I wasnt trying to dispute the fact that he followed the protocol to a T.

I was simply stating that my "max out" routine was a little different. I have used "my" method for several years now and it has increased my max significantly. I'm only 6'0" 220 and my max has shot up to 390.

Once again... I will explain that I am just trying to "share" my expierences with others in hope that someone else will hopefully learn and grow from them..........

Beast...Keep up the good work Bro. Maybe my first post on this tread will help ya; I know the 3rd post will not... :D

SO don't go for 300, go for 315.
I been doing the power matrix so far and I like it. I been gaining some good strength with it so far. I close gripped 275 for 1 rep today after 225*4, 225*7, 245*4.

I'm just going to do what RR suggested and skedz medz. Go light for 3 sets and then do a new PR.

*waves white flag* im not trying to make any enemies here. i had just assumed you'd maybe skipped the part where he said he was using power matrix........my bad. as a matter of fact i think i will try your variation for a max out next time i bench.
