hello long time lurker 37, 5' 10" 205. I went to doc other day and told her i wanted my testosterone tested. I got a call the next day and she said i was on the very low side of normal (didn't get the numbers). So then she said I need to come in and discuss therapy options. So my question is what would be the options and how can i manipulate this for maximum benift. Also being that I am on the very low side of normal meaning they are following some sort of medical baseline to decide. Isn't possible that me being on low side of normal is very low for me and normal for someone else. thanks for any hlep or advice.

It will be better to know what your exact numbers are, but 95% of doctors out there do not know how to run a proper testosterone replacement therapy (TRT) protocol. The ranges are different depending on the lab that they are using. My lab range for Total Testosterone was anywhere from 160-750, while other ranges can be from 300-1400.

We have a board sponsor here named Chip who runs Maximus Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT) and I am sure will be chiming in shortly. I will tell you that most likely the doctor will not know how to properly treat your Low T thus putting you on a hormonal roller coaster ride from hell. Get your exact numbers and talk with Chip and he can help you out.

Please do not manipulate anything. Be honest with your doctor. They may or may not help you, but at least you are heading in the right direction.

good points Rip. very true.

but to the OP, i would first go in to see the doc and see what she suggests. Amazingly there are some docs out there that 'specialize' in HRT. Now, i use that word lightly cause i hate docs for the most part and being a specialist doesn't necessarily mean shit.

i agree Chip would be a great place to start if you don't hear what you need, but i would love to hear what she suggests before you start a plan with Chip. if she's actually on point you may be ok. If not, you have a great option in Chip.

One thing to think about. I'm not sure if you meant it this way, but gettig on a testosterone replacement therapy (TRT) protocol doesn't mean cycling steroids. So if you mean "get maximum benefit" in the sense that you can get huge now that you are on juice, you need to think again.

Having low test levels sucks, and fixing any hormonal imbalance caused by this will change your life, but you have to know all facets.

Get your numbers and let us know what she says. Just ask for a copy of the test results. Its your irght as a patient to get them. Then let us know and I'm sure Chip will have chimed in by then.

Great advice. I was curious as to what he meant by the "maximum benefit" as well. I have talked to several people and it is amazing how they are being prescribed meds and have not even seen their blood tests. A friend of mine recently went to the doc and the doc told him a list of what all was wrong but did not discuss numbers. I told him it is not only his right to have those papers, but his responsibility too. It is crazy.

And DJC109, RJ is right, don't let one bad doctor ruin the whole bunch. I am in the category of dealing with MD's (Mentally Deficients) for a long time so at least give your doc the benefit of a doubt first.

maximum benefit meaning that I dont want to start on this just to get on gear. I really have had my quality of life affected by how I have been feeling the last couple years. I want to get the most out of this as possible. I geuss reading my op it is a little misleading or misguided. Sure I am interested in the affects as far as building muscle and burning fat. however my main concern is getting back to who i was in the past. Not this passive, unmotivated, depressed person with a non-exsistaint sex drive. I do apolagize if it seemed as if I was just trying to find a source not my intention at all.

YES!!!!!

This was my exact position. My numbers were not low compared to the "normal" individual. My total test was 579 ng/dl and my free test was 133 pg/ml. Both of those numbers are smack in the middle of the traditional 300 - 1200 range.

I made the augment that 579 was "low" for me. I had 15 years worth of blood work to back it up. When I was in my 20's b/c of my AAS use and the fact that I was a competitive bodybuilder, I'd get blood tested every 3 months. I did this religiously. So, I showed my urologist that my normal range from the time I was in my 20's to about the age of 37 was 900-1000+.

Once I made my case, my urologist had no problem working with me to keep me above 1000 and over 200 free test.

I can tell you that for me, it was a major win b/c I am working with a guy who actually listens to me and how I feel as opposed to pegging me into some arbitrary range based on "normal" people.

Make your case the best that you can and go from there.

Regards.

A "number" is a good marker to see what DOES and doesn't necessarily need to be addressed. I'm all about addressing the "HUMAN CONDITION" not some fucking "PDR".:shoot5:

Thanks so much for repkys I will call in am to get my numbers. I just want to feel the way I think I should. I like my doctor a lot so I'm not pre judging. Just know chip is very well respected here and have really learned a ton reading his posts. I would really like to start on one of his protocols. Anyway I will get my numbers posted.
