I'm totally coming in from left field as I have no idea what kind of diet he is on but isn't the loading of carbs a RE feed? He is giving his body the carbs so his metabolism doesn't slow down and his body won't think it's starving...
Just guessing here
well if he is on a moderate cut and not going extreme low calorie deficit , then there would be no point in a re-feed to 'yo yo back the metabolism' .. looks like a binge to me. heres why.
so lets say his maintenance is 2300 calories per day , and for his cut he drops it down to 2000 calories per day (nothing extreme like a 1000 calorie deficit because he wants to maintain muscle mass and keep his metabolism going).
that is a weekly calorie deficit for the cut of 2100 calories per week** . well lets do the math on his weekend binge. he says he consumes 500 grams of carbs, and a big fatty steak for a cheat meal .
well 500 grams of carbs = 2000 calories
big fatty steak = 1000 calories
that cheat meal for the weekend is 3000 additional calories for the week .. (when he is supposed to be in a 2100 calorie deficit for the week) , that cheat meal actually puts him in a weekly SURPLUS of 900 calories per week.
do the math , he is NOT even in a cut then, he is bulking cause he is in a weekly calorie surplus. Thats what binging does. no wonder he is holding water and feeling bloated when he supposedly 'cutting' , cause he is actually bulking.***
** weekly counting of calories (TDEE x 7) is better then daily, cause you can see a bigger picture then just one day
*** I'm not saying that math is actually NotGills numbers and calories and HE himself is therefore bulking even though he thinks he is cutting ,, this is just the example I'm giving., how that in the name of a 're-feed' one ends up binging and ends up not cutting at all when looking at the total weekly calories consumed
