Only 8.5mL in my 10mL vial

What the fuck... GP Test E. Just went for my ninth pin today and I only got about .5mL out of the vial before it was empty.

I've got an extra 6mL for this cycle so I'm not concerned about running out, but what the fuck? GP underfilling their vials? There's a tiny visible hole on the vial stopper but I highly doubt any escaped. The vial is kept in a little padded envelope and there's nothing in there... plus that's a lot of gear to seep out.

Am I missing something? Is this relatively common? Should I talk to my supplier?

unlikely, you're probably not taking into account how much oil still resides in the needle and the front chamber of the syringe

example, if you draw with a 1.5" 18g needle, and you pull back to the 1ml mark, then pull the plunger back and swap needles, you're actually getting an extra .1-.2ml in the syringe (that was formerly sitting inside the needle itself). Additionally, if you dont leave a small air bubble in the syringe, a little oil stays in the needle after you pin

more often than not you'll only get 8.5-9.5ml out of a 10ml vial, even though it originally contained the full 10ml

basically you'll always end up a little short of 10ml, even if you do your best not to waste any, its an imperfect process

you lose .1-.2 about each time you pin (left in the needle tip). so if you did 8 shots and lost .15 each time that is 1.2ml.

if you change the needle before injection this is an additional loss
anyway, next time you may try to withdraw the whole vial in a 10ml syringe to make sure you got what you paid for then push it back in the vial

Is there any way to combat this then? Next time, I'll get my hands on shorter drawing needles to attempt to draw less excess. Should I pull just a hair less than what I want and then pull some air into the syringe to clear out the needle?

I have been shorted on one of my 25ml bottles of testE But I prolly did not account for the exact loss in the needle I really never thought it was as much as the previous posters claim. Not saying you guys are wrong I just did not think it would add up to that much.

If you draw with your thick needle (whatever it may be 18g usually) then draw back a little air thump the pin and pull it back a little more, and replace it with a 22g needle it should minimize the loss as much as possible.

I hate to admit this but my first 2 weeks I used the same 18g needle to draw and shoot lol talk about a sore ass .... then I got smart and got plugs with removable needles. Much better

on a 3ml syringe i will pull till the tick right before its 1ml. take the syringe out of the vial then pull back a lil more and its exactly 1ml. i draw with a 1" 22g.

If you draw and pin correctly you shouldnt be wasting gear and if you do it's a very tiny amount, sure the fuck not a full ml that's ridiculous.

I'll give that a shot when I pin Wednesday.

That's what I would figure as well. 1.5mL is quite a bit to waste from changing needles.

thats what i do, i typically only come up a little short on the final pin, .1-.25ml

You don't lose .1ml each time you pin. If you are measuring correctly. Pull in up to .1ml of the amount you want then pull the oil back to the first line and you should have the exact amount. That leaves .1ml air so when you pin it also pushes out all oil.

Most likely it was slightly under filled. It's easy to lose some in measuring but not that much. Just take your time and be sure. Take an old vial and fill it with 10ml oil and then you can look and see if the vials match up before you open it. If it's short contact supplier.

So you're saying to pull to .1mL under the amount you want?

I checked the other 5 vials I have sitting here and they're all the same fill so we'll see what happens.

yes you are. yoru failing ot realize that you loos a wee bit every time you pin. SOME stay in the pin even if its just 0.001ml or 0.1ml some is.
so if you pinned 8 times with 8 fresh pins out of one 10ml vial, then 0.5ml gone wouldent startle me.
if you only did like 2-3 pins total then i would say thats maybe a bit much .

its a loss you have to take, dont go get a cycsts or steril absess now because of using a pin thats too short becausee if you worring of wasting 3 cents worth of gear.

and leave you to inject a bubble into yourself. possibly reachigna vaine.
i would just take the loss...

Okay. 0.5mL wouldn't have been as big a deal to me. That's not what I had though. I'm short about 1.5mL.

I'm not interested in shorter pinning needles. Just for drawing.

Aspirating should take care of any concern with this.

And I thought you needed a significant amount of air in a vein to cause a problem anyway.

Change syringes to eliminate waste

Zero Dead Space syringes are made to eliminate the waste in the syringe. The pins are permanently attached to the syringe and are a simpler design. The problem is not very many places carry them or they overcharge for them.

It was definitely a problem with me because I take just low dosages and the dead space is a waste. I switched to Zero Dead Space pins by Exel and that solves it. The downside is that they are just 1ml x 5/8" so they may not be good for some of you. The shorter pin is fine for me.

You can contact me if you have a problem locating a cheap source.

The problem with a non-Luer Lock syringe is that you're using the same needle to draw and pin. You dull the needle by piercing the rubber stopper on a vial. Plus, as you said, you're restricted to short needles (fine for triceps/delts/etc) but it's also a 1mL syringe. Most dosages are 1mL or more. Doesn't sound like a very good option. You're better off pulling air into the syringe to clear the needle and then swapping to prevent waste.
