pathetic "weightlifting comp" going on at my universtiy

Apparently there is a small weightlifting competion in my small ass univeristy gym and its funny cause there is a weight class (178-200+) its all based on weight lifted for your weight. Its not whoever gets the higher lift in that weigt class wins , they calculate it somehow. I got guys asking me that i should do it etc...I respsonded with "how about we get a god damn squat rack first then do the big three and see how everyone does" Seems so many guys go to this gym that only do curls and flat bench every day... And there are a few guys that only train bench and feel very accomplished with a 405lbs bench w\a shirt.

I am just going to stick to my plan to gain strength and not be bothered by made up fony competitions.

Wish the guys would stop waisting time with this and get a squat rack or some new equipment for this very small gym...(about ths size of a small hallway.)

You should have joined the competition, then you can have the satisfaction of showing them how it's done. Next time take advantage of the situation.
 
If you don't want to do it, then don't, but if you do, then maybe a few people will pay attention. What lifts are they doing?

Lateral rasies
Tricep Kickbacks
laying leg curls
 
enter the contest and smoke em. you seem to be very confident. if you win, your voice to request more equipment might have more pull. then write up a petition, signed by all the contest participants to get some new equipment.
 
actually its kinda cool
granted it should be run as sort of an informal Pl type of thing
but at least its a good way to get a feel for competition

maybe you should talk to whoever decided to do this and educate them and maybe get a full power or a push/pull meet going at the school gym in a few months?????
 
yea, i have this problem too. my gym wants to put on a comp too but it will be seperated into weight classes. everyone there wants me to get into it cuz i have a decent 500lb squat/dead and a shitty bench but the problem is i am 265lbs. there is no way i could compete in my weight class. i am chubby but i do not look 265lbs, i carry my weight very well

all PL meets go by bodyweight..has nothing to with hiding your weight well..if you feel you gain no advatage from the extra padding drop down a weight class..easier said then done but people do it all the time
 
I havent heard about anything yet, but the guy that is runing it does not workout and has no experience with anything like this before and is just testing this out to see how the tunrout is(so far 6 people). ONe of the guys that is entering has done a bench only meet with a shirt and beleives he knows everything and is very ignorant(got 405 shirted) ..believes about too much protein is bad etc. SO i may just sit back and see how this thing turns out and just focus on my own personal traiining.

-Hey mabey they will mabey do a dead\bench thing eventually....That would be fun to do.

well results are in...these guys came up to me and my training partner and were asking why we didnt participate. but here is what they told me.

One guy at 193lbs benched 300lbs raw
one guy at 215lbs benched 315lbs raw
one guy 165lbs 405lbs w\shirt
one guy 165lbs 315 w\shirt

basically a pissing contest and no respect towards each other , it was more of an ego thing it seems. I wish there was a bench\dead comp but whatever.
