So if it melts at the right temperature it is fairly pure, 70%+, and i shouldn't worry? I have heard var is sometimes 3/4s filler.

to check the melting point I would not use an oven as you could get wildly inaccurate results. Instead I would use actual melting point capillaries and hot oil, this method also only uses less that .01 grams of your product.

to purify the product I would recrystallize it. this is a common method used in organic chemistry and there are many videos on how to do it online.
