Its been a full week since I had an elective surgery and my tongue is still annoyingly numb. I went in last friday for a non life threatening procedure..they knocked me out completely. When I woke up I was shaking profusely..they said it was common but I think they gave me too much anesthesia. and my tongue was swollen and numb. If I stick it out, it goes to the right, which is odd..I feel like I'm damaged now. I have to be careful forming my words so I don't speak with a lisp and sound stupid. Anyone else get this? How long do I have to suffer? I've had 3 boob jobs and never had this before.

Can anesthesia cause numbness of tongue for weeks after the shot?
From WikiAnswers - Can anesthesia cause numbness of tongue for weeks after the shot

I have found many posts from a Google search where people have had numbness on the tip of the tongue after anesthesia, and I am also experiencing it after 5 days. I didn't have a shot in my tongue; I had an IV, and nothing in my mouth, so I found it very strange. Others have had it with an operation that was in no way connected to the mouth, some had masks or other breating apparatus, but I had neither.

Phlebitis is a term that means inflammation of a blood vessel. Phlebitis occurs quite commonly after the insertion of an IV. This can occur any where from 2.5% to 45% or more, when an IV is used. There is a wide variation because it depends on how phlebitis is defined, such as the place the IV is inserted, the duration that the IV has been in place, the type of material that the IV is made of, the length of the IV catheter, and on the existence of other disorders, such as diabetes. If you continue to feel pain and have swelling for more than three weeks you should connect with your physician.

its annoying more than anything...and its odd that when I stick my tongue out it deviates to the right at the tip...I couldn't do this naturally..how bizarre. I have a feeling they gave me more anesthesia than normal to knock me back out..when I woke up, they told me I was feisty and I had a good left hook..lol I have visions of the gas man giving me more to knock me back out. my disolvable stitches are bothering me more than the tongue..I want those stitches out and its tempting to start picking at them.

Anyone have a supplement that helps with healing time? That would be useful right now..
