Pre-Workout Eats

I wanted to know if anyone does any type of food pre-work out instaed of a pre-work out drink?

the only time i get to the gym is late at night and my pre w/o drink is keeping me up all night. I usually take a scoop of Jack3d and a scoop of super nox and 500mg niacin. I've tried justthe Jack3d alone and it keeps me up aswell. im just really sensitive to caffein and stimulants.

when i used to go in the morning I had a bowl of oats and that was gtg but i want to change it up a lil
 
A spoonful of pb or a couple handfuls of almonds just for extra calories. Or an easy digesting protein like tuna. Or I've drank down a glass full of eggs.
 
Kinda depends on ur goals and whatnot. If I were to actually think of what would be effective for bulking I would say a good meal of protein and complex carbs 1-2 hours preworkout, then a fast digesting protein and fast carbs immediately preworkout.
 
Lol course its keeping you up all night. Its not that your sensitive to caffeine taking those 'STIMULANT' drinks late would keep anyone up all night. Jack3d is potent stuff it makes a good pre-workout drink IF you take it in the morning and only the morning.

If you have to workout at night simply don't take it. SIMPLES, you wouldn't drink 3 cups of coffee before you went to bed would you? Thats no different from taking jack3d after 3-4 o'clock in the afternoon. As for a pre-workout meal consume a low glycemic index high protein/complex carb meal 1-1.5 hours before your workout i.e. chicken with brown rice and steamed broccoli.
 
U could also look at low stim or caffeine free preworkouts

I'll look into the caffein free stuff aswell I was under the impression that all pre's had caffein, i thought that was on of the main points of them. I tried the peanut butter also but I get horrible acid refleux with peanut butter.

I've tried the chicken and rice out before that was pretty good pre.
 
Dymatize makes caffeine free I believe. And the superpump max by gaspari is low stimulant. I personally love stimulants and I get great pumps from the max but no caffeine rush, so I mix it with other preworkouts.

The caffeine is only half the purpose of a preworkout. The superpump max selling points is that too much stimulants and u restrict blood flow which is true, so its counter productive. They say they have really good other ingredients to give u a good pump. The arginine precursor, instead of arginine and a bunch of other ingredients to supposedly make it more effective.

I blend a shake up, love it.

2 cups milk
2 tbsp natty pb
half scoop to full scoop whey (depending on budget)
1 banana

tastes great and for some reason makes me have great workouts. tried the ingredients individually, didn't have the same effect.
 
A good mixture of protein and complex carbs will do pre workout about 2 hrs before... Example chicken and sweet potatoes then you could still do a pre workout drink that's a non stimulant like evogen, augment, Pump-Bol, etc...
 
I like to eat a big meal about an hour before I lift. Some people complain that they get stomach cramps, but I don't have that problem.

Fat free milk with protein is a good option too if you dont have a full hour or more before your workout.
 
Actually I also drink fat free milk with protein while I am working out too, I feel that the fast digesting carbs and protein provide my body with all it needs to continue its metabolic processes and keep my glycogen stores up a little. It's important to get protein into you as quick as possible after your workout as there is a window that is important to take advantage of where your body is very anabolic. If you get protein while your lifting, then it's their already when your workout is finished :)

I actually also use insulin during my work out which pushes carbs, protein, and creatine into my muscles and it definitely increases my work load in the gym. Gives a good pump, but I STRONGLY advise against this for anyone who doesn't have years of lifting and diet knowledge as well as months and months of research done before starting the insulin. If you do it carelessly you can drop dead very easily. Insulin is scary enough post workout, when you start doing it pre work out your risk of dying goes WAY up.
 
I hate working out on a full stomach, sometimes feel like I am going to heave. I've found a banana is the perfect food to get me through my workout. Although it pains me to spend a dollar for one at starbucks or mac's milk when I am in a rush, they may be one of natures perfect foods.
