Pull ups

Okay I really really want to be able to do pull ups unassisted! I will take just being able to do 5! So I bought one of those pull up bar thingies and put it up in between my closet doorway...um...I can't even do one. What can I do to be able to do them is that arm or back strength?

Also I'm nor sure what the difference is between the different varieties of them wide grip, narrow grip, palms facing you, palms away from you.

Any tits?

One suggestion would be to start at the top of the pull-up and try to hold yourself up as long as possible for awhile. This is besides working out the rest of your body.....

cant believe noone noticed your typo lol

you could have someone hold your legs and give you some assistance get your reps in and slowly have them give you less help over time

takes time...i used to struggle with doin 1 wide grip pullup...now i do 4 sets of 10 to warm up for back.

I agree with the idea about doing negatives. Great lat builder there. Start out with a narrow grip like suggested, that puts more load on the biceps and makes it a lot easier. Palms facing you would probably be easier too.

WHos that in the avatar?

aber, you can also place a chair under you, and just put your feet on the edge of the chair. Use your thighs to help assist you doing the pulls ups.
When I had my soldiers doing pullups, i had them do as many as they could, then have someone behind them hold their feet, and do another 10 reps using their legs for a little help.
It works just like the pullup assist machines in gyms, your knees are bent.

Are you a natural lifter? I couldn't do 1 either until I started juicing. That made an incredible difference immediately.

You got some good advice though here I think. I think if you do all that on you will have some dramic results pretty fast. I could never make any progress on them natural at all.

I've seen that excersice before but I never did it. What's the difference with normal pullups?

I tried that before but felt like I'm cheating since my feet instinctively pushes me up somewhat...

to be honest...i dont know. It changed the mechanics of the lift. Its almost as if it makes the lift easier, but you can add weight to your lap to make it just as, more effective than a normal chin up.

All i know is that my back likes (or hates) it more than a normal chin up.

you just gotta try it to experience.
