Question for experienced bodybuilding compedators

Something i was thinkin about lately that i couldnt quite figure out. Iv only done shows naturally so far, so i dont know how things work with anabolics. Im not sure how i would do this:

If i run a bulking cycle before my cutting cycle for competition, il have to take some time off in between to let my body recover. You always lose a little size coming off, and you want to be at your biggest before you start cutting. In the cutter, you cant put on size since ur cutting down, so how do you attain your maximum size before you start cutting, without running cycles back to back?
 
id say do a longer cycle, like 20 weeks bulking for the first half and cutting for the last half. but i dont compete so....

What I would do and kind of still do is after my steroid cycle ends I keep my cals high just like I'm still on my cycle through my post meds. When I get through my post I drop my cals to maintainace levels for the next 8-12 weeks. This time was crucial if my cals dropped to low I would loose valuable muscle mass. This would bring me up to my cutting cycle at this point I would again adjust my cals as I saw fit to get into contest shape or if I had time I would cut then go into another period of light bulking or maintainace before hitting my contest diet.
