Is it possible to get cut up from a good diet and working out at home with only having dumbbell freeweights and an adjustable bench? Thinking about getting a gym membership and trying out a personal trainer to learn how i should train at the gym sometime in the near future~

As high as i need em to get what i feel to be a solid work out. I'll go and pick up a new pair if i feel the sets I am using are getting to easy~ My arms and shoulders have developed pretty beastlike over the last 3 mos.. Trying to catch my chest up tho

you'd be surprised what you can do with minimal equipment. are you able to train as a powerlifter or a bodybuilder with just some freeweights and a bench? no. are you able to get an appreciable, athletic physique while at the same time getting fairly fit using some freeweights, a bench, and a good diet? definitely.

let me give you some ideas to work with. overhead dumbbell press one and two arm, shrugs, side lateral raises, one arm dumbbell snatch, curls, one armed bent over rows, dumbbell chest press one arm and two armed. flies. put a dumbbell in the crook of one of your legs for weighted pullups and dips. speaking of that, if you don't have a pullup bar and a way to do dips, you're wrong. when it comes to a minimalist gym, these are IMO the two most important things you can have. now start looking around for heavy ass shit. you wanna get in great cardiovascular shape, anaerobic shape, burn fat, build muscle and be an overall badass? strongman type lifts and carries. find something heavy you can bear hug and do just that. now walk with it. find something heavy to hoist overhead and lockout, one heavy dumbbell will do, now walk with it. find a free used tire somewhere, drill a hole in the tread and install an eye bolt. grab a spring link and a tow strap and voila, you got a sled. you can drag it, pull it, do flies and rows with it, etc. the possibilities are endless and it will cost you 30 bucks. now get a sledgehammer and beat the shit out of that tire. you see where i am going with this shit?

oh also forgot to mention, don't neglect your wheels man! no barbell? no problem. for now..... goblet squats. bulgarian goblet squats. lunges. bodyweight calve raises and hold dumbbells to your sides and do calve raises. bodyweight jump squats then graduate to holding a dumbbell as if doing a goblet squat and do jump squats with that. and when i say jump squats (and especially if using any weight!) i don't mean jump and land back on the floor. this will wreak havoc on your knees. find something to jump up onto, roughly 24". build a box or find a ledge somewhere to jump up onto to take the stress off your knees. also don't neglect the hammies, you can do dumbbell one leg straight leg deadlifts. better than nothing.

you're welcome. eventually though you are going to need to join a good gym, or buy a squat rack and barbell with some plates if you want to continue working out at home.

Yea I do plan on getting a gym membership eventually I just want to improve what I can with free weights before doing so! You guys are the best.

thanks heavy, i can't take credit for the sled though, people have been doing that for a long time. also if you have buddy with a mig welder or if you weld yourself, you can get scrap metal from a junk yard for cheap and weld some good cheap strongman implements, also weld your own squat rack out of 2 inch square tubing.

i made a dip station out of pvc- ultimately was a p.o.s- any good ideas? don't have a mig, but have a buddy if needed.
