Rubber stopper came off of vial, how to salvage the oil?

Hey guys. I recently opened my first vial of test and the whole metal ring came off, allowing the rubber stopper to slip out. I am now afraid that the oil is no longer sterile and safe to inject. I contacted my source but they do not want to seem to help me out. I was wondering if this oil was salvageable. My thought was to get a syringe filter and filter the oil, then put it into a new sealed vial. Do you guys think this will take any possible bacteria out of the oil? Also, I am not sure what size filter i would need. Please let me know what you guys think as I do not want to waste this oil. Thank you

you could have drawn it up into sterile syringes as soon as it happened and been fine now you will need to filter it.

That is a good idea, however at the time I did not think of that. Do you think it will be fine as long as I filter it? I put the rubber stopper back on it was only off for a couple seconds so nothing else will be going into it. What size syringe filter will i want to use to insure it is clean? Just get a whatman .22um syringe filter and inject into sterile vial. I had to do this once, the hardest part was finding the syringe filter, only place that had it was an hour drive away. Most compounding pharmacies should carry them, or buy online.

Keep your vial in a ziplock bag or something until you can do this process.

filtering should make it fine , ive never made gear at home so im not sure what whitman filter you should use. someone else should hit you up with that answer sometime today. be patient sundays are slow and superbowl sunday will be worse.

Thank you for your response. I am just going to order the filter online from the same i got my syringes. Also, I meant to put "vial" in the title not syringe. Sorry for any confusion. I appreciate all the responses guys. Also, I'm assuming for these filters you put a needle on the syringe draw the oil into the syringe, then pull the needle off, put the filter on with a needle on that and then inject into the syringe?

Basically you will need:

-10ml or more large syringe
-.22um syringe filter
-16g-22g pins to withdrawl and inject oil
-Sterile Vial

Then you attach the syringe filter to the syringe, it attaches the same way a pin does. Then you attach your 16g pin to the filter.

Ok thank you for your help. I ordered a whitman .20 filter, 10 ML syringe and 18 gage pin, along with a new sealed 10ML vial. I think that should be everything I need to do this correct?

I agree. would NOT use that now unless its re-filterd and put into a NEW steril seald vile.

I ordered a .20 pour whatman filter and a new sealed vial, so that is what I will be doing as soon as those arrive.

Same thing happened to me about a month and a half ago with a new 10ml vial of test.All I did was pull it from the vial with a 18ga pin and inject it into another sterile vial.I didnt filter anything and literally within 3-4 minutes of popping the the cap off the test was in another vial.

I've used almost all of it and didnt have any issues at all.
