Running vs. Elliptical

I am trying to optimize my cardio, I go twice a day, trying to burn the fat around my stomach, lower portion and around my lats. I am about 5'8", 205 lbs. with 10% bd..I have ripped arms, and legs but a gut still....I can afford to lose a little mass, just concerned with the fat...currently I do ellipitcal or walk on a treadmill uphill at 3.8 mph for 45 minutes in morning the and after training....would jogging expedite this or become too catabolic?

are you doing 45 minutes of cardo twice a day every day? also i would not do more then 135 minutes of cardio a week. anything more then that you will burn to much muscle. i personally think the ellipitcal will burn more fat. do it in the morning if possible, that is when the body is burning the most calories. also what is your diet like? that is the most inportant part.

I am using the elliptical to help with shin splints. Didn't run all winter so now I can only run every couple days while I build up and use the machine the other days.

if you are doing cardio after weight training, your body will burn into muscle. if possible get some protein in your body, so that you dont start burning away at muscle instead of fat stores :)

I don't know if thats a proven fact or not. Do you have solid proof on that? I've heard many guys say what you just said but then on the other hand I hear just as many people saying that after your workout will burn fat, not muscle.

PS: quit smiling!!

;) j/k

I've always done cardio after my workout but if you do it at a low intensity then you should be burning mostly fat calories anyways. Therefor it should not make a big difference if you do it before or after. The elliptical trainer is nice because it relieves some stress put on the joints and still burns quite a few calories. Cardio is cardio so just make sure you do some.
