Senate Bill S.959 Gives FDA Oversight of Compounding Pharmacies

I just came across this Bill on the home page of the 'ology website. Looks like if the FDA is given oversight of compounding pharmacies that we testosterone replacement therapy (TRT) guys may have a harder time getting the meds we rely on. Anyone else following this or have insight? I would especially like to hear from IMT, given their leadership in providing outstanding hormone therapy around the country.

Let's get our compounded testosterone replacement therapy (TRT) from the floor of the Senate then. It will be a huge presence :)

Wow! I count wait for you to get to 50 posts Prudens. You are only 24 years old and you are on testosterone replacement therapy (TRT) and you're just an awesome dude. 50 posts almost there!

Sorry I missed this post, I was on vacation at the time.

About 3 months ago IMT raised it prices about 50 bucks for a 10 week period because we knew this was coming. We did not want to but it had to be done, we ate some of the increase as well. When something like this happens you have to be prepared when it goes through because it is expected of licensed pharmacies to be compliant immediately, if not they would have to refrain from compounding until they were compliant.

rhGH use to be compounded and once the FDA got a hold of it restrictions were implemented, the price increased dramatically and now it is near impossible to be a rhGH manufacturer unless you have millions of dollars. Maybe I shouldn't say this but it is all about money. Here is a good article discussing how it all works Special Deal by Haley Sweetland Edwards | The Washington Monthly

So as far as the restrictions so far those are all good things, which primarily arose from the Meningitis outbreak from the small compounding pharmacy on the upper east coast last year.

Before all batches were tested, but compounding pharmacies were aloud to dispense the medication before getting the results of this test. It was more of a way to track and get rid of an entire batch if something were not up to par.

Now, due to the new regulations, compounding pharmacies are required to make smaller batches AND they have to triple test each batch, send to 3 different testing companies and receive the results before dispensing the medication.

As I said before I think all of things are good, I am not sold on the fact they have to use multiple testing facilities, I think there are some people who stand to make a lot of money from testing these compound pharmacies, gotta cut the big players in ya know? :)

Either way the overall restrictions will just mean better medication for the end user and the price hike was not that bad and probably well worth the money.

This is not where it is ending though, they are probably going to make it where Testosterone Injectables can only be Manufactured, and someone would have to have a manufacturing license to make the medication, which comes at a very big cost. This will make the price skyrocket on testosterone, which doesn't matter for those that can get it prescribed and covered under their insurance, but not everyone can.

Luckily IMT has some strong relationships with those that have recently became a manufacturer, so we are making every effort to ensure that we will still be able to offer our services, and at a much lower price than other cash pay networks in the business.

Hope this helps

This is why I fear being totally dependent on TRT....
There was a shortage of Testosterone, Human Chorionic Gonadotropin (HCG) here 2 years ago that sent everyone into a panic....
Now Govt. wants more oversight and control.
It looks like medical patients all over the U.S. are going to be controlled by communism. This is unacceptable!
